Everything You Need to Know About Broadway Week In NYC

When it comes to Broadway Week In NYC, there is no going wrong with 2-for-1 tickets twice a year. It’s treated as a holiday by the way, people flood the box office and online to grab tickets. Whether you have been to them all or none yet, the Broadway community is nothing short of welcoming. If you are a lover of the arts, then Broadway Week in NYC is something I would highly consider doing. Getting 2-for-1 tickets is such a steal and you get to see your favorite musicals for that much cheaper. Broadway is back and better than ever so let’s continue supporting the art. I hate to be biased, but no talent compared to New York City and soon you’ll agree with me. Check out everything you need to know about Broadway Week in NYC and get ready to be amazed.

Why I Will Never Stop Supporting Broadway

Growing up loving the arts and experiencing the life of a performer, I have a lot of respect for them. Not only the performers, but the musicians, stage crew, fashion designers the whole crew. We only see the stage, but there is so much behind the scenes that you and I will never know.

My Upbringing In The Arts

I was very fortunate to have been exposed to the arts at a very young age. Playing the saxophone for about four hours a day taught me so much yet so little about a performer’s life. This is not a job these people do for the money, let me just start there. They put their heart out onto the stage and do what they love each day which is beautiful. It’s why I will never stop supporting Broadway, the arts, music, concerts, etc. The arts have such a great way of bonding like-minded people together and sharing a story. There is something about seeing every emotion, movement and hearing the harmonies from live music that completes the experience.

Quick Lesson on Broadway Shows/Plays vs. Musicals: Getting the Terminology Down

My best friend Leigh taught me this big tip (she’s a Broadway star on the rise just wait!!) When there is music involved, it’s called a musical, and when it’s more script-based and acting, then it’s a play.

Off-Broadway to Broadway: How Does It Work

I’ve been to a handful of musicals and am very fortunate to have seen them. Unfortunately, not every musical can continue running forever and they do eventually go off-Broadway. Likewise, it also leaves room for emerging musicals to go on Broadway! Typically shows start off-Broadway at smaller theaters until they get enough support which then goes to the main stage! There are tons of off-Broadway shows that you can see and they are typically that much cheaper! I know some people who saw Hamilton off-Broadway and I mean that is priceless!

Which Ones Have I Been To?

Mary Poppins, Beauty & the Beast, Anastasia, The Lion King, Aladdin, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Hamilton, Hadestown, Mean Girls, Dear Evan Hansen, After Midnight, Peter & the Star Catcher, Frozen, School of Rock, KPOP, Come From Away, Back To The Future & more to come!!

If you’re looking to watch the classics this Broadway Week In NYC

  1. Lion King: Overall this was an amazing show. My favorite part of this had to have been the set. It was so impressive how they were able to bring the African Savannah to life on a tiny Broadway stage. The dancers, ensemble, set, music, and costumes were A M A Z I N G. I was in this show in the second row and was quite literally blown away! I grew up watching Disney movies and well this brought back the memories- talk about nostalgia from ten years past! If you are even remotely considering this show- DO IT. I promise you, you will not have any regrets. 2. Wicked: This is one of those C L A S S I C S that is worth seeing. I had seen the musical twice and let me tell you watch it again when you’re older. You’ll understand the story and lyrics that much more. This is the prequel to The Wizard of Oz when both the witches (Glinda & Elphaba) used to be close friends. If you want to get ahead listen to the Original Broadway Cast Recording click HERE & Get TICKETS HERE
  3. Aladdin: Another classic I mean you cannot go wrong with this one. There’s not much to say here because the performances were truly out of the world (or shall I say a part of it) haha. The storyline doesn’t change from the Disney movie so there aren’t any surprises! If you want to get a head start and listen to the Broadway Cast Recording, click HERE & Get TICKETS HERE

Broadway Week In NYC: If you can pay the big bucks, this is a masterpiece

  1. Hamilton: OKAY JUST GO SEE IT. DO I EVEN NEED TO MAKE A REC OF THIS??? Alright, we’re doing this, but just know it doesn’t need a rec, just go! I had the pleasure of watching this show with the original cast, yeah you heard that correctly. I was practically shitting my pants the entire time being that close to all of them. This is all about Alexander Hamilton, the United States’ first Secretary of Treasury. More importantly, he is one of the most quintessential roles in founding the country. His story resonates with the immigrant story and making it in the Big Apple. Hamilton is a character we learned little to nothing about in American history and this musical proves how that needs to change. This musical was life-changing for me and I don’t mean to sound dramatic. am so proud to share that I still know all the words to the entire soundtrack. Quiz me, I DARE YOU! If you’re looking for a more serious performance

  1. Hadestown: So this was a musical that I saw recently and the talent that I saw was truly indescribable and no wonder it won a Tony award for best musical in 2019. The performances were just out of this world. I mean the vocals on everyone were so unique and it brought a different vibe to what I was used to. The story itself is a little confusing at first, but once you get it, it’s GOOD!! I thought I was going to be confused but I surprisingly wasn’t Listen to the album here click HERE & Get TICKETS HERE

When you want to laugh the whole night, go here!

  1. Book of Mormon: So this is another musical that TOTALLY SURPRISED ME. I mean this is DEF UP THERE ON THE LIST. I laughed so hard during the entire performance, guys RUN DON’T WALK!!! This is the story of a group of Mormons in training who graduate from their programs and are sent off on their mission to fill their life goals to convert people to Mormonism. The main character has this dream to go to Orlando but instead, he is sent to Uganda and I mean I won’t spoil anything. Please please please do everything you can to see this. I promise you, it’s 1000% worth it. If you want to get a head start and listen to the Original Broadway Cast Recording click HERE & Get TICKETS HERE
