Fall New York NYC Travel

45+ Fall Activities in NYC & New York State

It’s no question that Fall is my absolute favorite season. There’s something about how the weather transitions from the hot, muggy summer to the crisp and cozy fall. I feel as though everyone has a refreshing attitude toward the changing seasons. Escaping the brutal heat into blissful sweater weather is my cup of tea. Once it hits 50/60 degrees, I instantly change out my summer clothes for my trusty fall wardrobe. I spent a bit of time building my fall wardrobe (which I am very proud of). I promised myself I wouldn’t buy any more winter clothes, but here we are awaiting another Amazon order because the sales are just that good.

There is way more to just the fall fashion that warms my heart. The fall foliage, fall hikes, cinnamon scents, pumpkin, and apple deserts, I mean 8 weeks of fall seems totally unfair- we need like 6 months of it in my opinion. Fall is going to fly by before we know it so I made sure to fill this Fall guide with a taste of everything you’d love. From NYC adventures to upstate getaways to long weekend trips and even bucket list destinations for me-join me as we discover more of our backyard and importantly channel our inner explorer because adventure is out there!

When To Visit?

The fall foliage is notorious for being unpredictable. Since Mother Nature is a fascinating woman, she does not reveal her secrets. Real talk, the weather is a huge factor in dictating the fall foliage. In 2020, the fall foliage in the Catskills was the week of Oct 27th, and in 2021 it was Oct 21. It’s looking like 2022’s fall foliage in the Catskills is around the same time as 2021, around Oct 20th. Since our prediction game isn’t strong, I know a website that makes it super easy to track the foliage with weekly reports! Welcome to the New York Fall Foliage Report , an easy resource to get the most up-to-date information on fall foliage!

What is the fall foliage? ⁣In autumn, the environment is less conducive to growth (less sunlight & colder weather, and so photosynthesis is suppressed. Chlorophyll (the green leaf color) continues to deteriorate and increases dramatically as time goes on. ⁣In short, Yellow, orange, red, and even purple foliage pigments have been in the leaf all along and are unmasked as chlorophyll levels decline and help to create a “mosaic of color on the hillsides.” (NewEngland.com) ⁣So there you have it, the more you know!! Did you guys know that? I for sure did not!⁣

Honestly, I am writing this and I have no idea where to start. Everything deserves to be first and honestly, I am so excited to share my list with you!! If you’re like me and would like to go on a getaway every weekend, JUST BOOK IT. There have been way too many instances where my boyfriend and I made a spontaneous decision to JUST BOOK IT and we had a great time! I organized this post by location. Depending on how far from NYC you want to travel to, I’ve got you covered! Ready to get all pumpkin’d out?? Sorry, that was cringy but I don’t make the rules. Here’s the extensive list and beware, it’s long & super informative. Share this with your go-to travel besties & let’s fall in love with fall.

Fall Activities in NYC & New York State: NYC Edition

You do not have to travel far to experience all of the Fall Activities. Right around the third week of October, the fall foliage begins to peak and it saves you a lot of gas money too. From outdoor adventures to festive bars, I have quite an exciting list to share so let’s get into it!

1.Oktoberfest: If you don’t have the funds to go to Germany, then THIS is the place to be. Presenting Octoberfest right here in the heart of NYC. I knew this was going to be so much fun because a lot of friends came along that I haven’t spoken to in quite a bit, we scored our reservations in advance, and I dressed up for the occasion which always makes me feel really good and lastly, we all drank and ate to our hears desire. For the full review, check out the post right here.

2.Pier 17 Pop-up: While you’re already at Pier 15 for Oktoberfest, head over to Pier 17 and check out the amazing Halloween, pumpkin photo-op. Afterward, we walked around and saw some pretty sick views of The Brooklyn Bridge and the rest of Brooklyn at nighttime. I’d recommend trying to go before Oktoberfest as well or in the daylight so that you can get more photos. Take your pics and tag me to be featured on my post! If you’re looking for Posing Tips & The Most Instagrammable Locations in NYC, check out my blogpost below!

3. “Candlelight Halloween: A Haunted Evening at Church of the Heavenly Rest” : is nothing short of an experience. I went to a Candlelight performance at the beginning of the year and it tooth my breath away so I seriously expect nothing less from this! check it out, get all festive for spooky season and buy your tickets now before they sell out!

4.Rocky Horror Picture Show: This is an ICONIC show to see. I actually have never seen it yet, but it’s something that I know I am going to enjoy so much! If you love Broadway, then this is certainly for you. Since I can’t speak on the experience, here is a great review/synopsis! Check out their Instagram here & score some tickets!

“Let’s do the Time Warp again!” The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a madcap horror musical that became a cultural phenomenon. The story follows a stranded couple that takes shelter at a nearby castle and is taken on a psychedelic journey of the bizarre by Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania.” The film satirizes the sci-fi and horror genres, with particular allusions to Frankenstein and Dracula.”

5. The Cauldron NYC: If you’re big into Harry Potter, witchcraft, tarter cards, potions, horoscopes, and best of all, all of the above, this cool bar in NYC will put your mixology skills to the test. Get a glimpse of magic school right in NYC. This place is still on my bucket list but is giving serious fall vibes.

6.The New York Botanical Garden The NYBG is such a cute place to spend a Fall day. Not only do they have new events going on every week, but they have outstanding views of the forest where we can see the peak foliage. Check out their “Fall-O-Ween” page and start planning some fun outings everyone will love.

7. Maze in Queens: Time Out Magazines featured this amazing experience that I had to share!! If you’re into getting lost every two seconds in NYC, then this is no different. Welcome to The Amazing Maize Maze at the Queens County Farm! They have regular hours and S P O O K Y hours incase you’re up for a challenge x2. I gotta add it to my bucket list. Check it out here and let me know what you think!

Maze Hours: The maze is open on Fridays (noon-4:30pm), Saturdays (11am-4:30pm), and Sundays (11am-4:30pm) from September 16 through October 29. It’s also open Monday, October 10 (11am- 4:30pm). Pricing is $12 for adults and $8 for kids — get your tickets here. Find The Amazing Maize Maze at Queens County Farm Museum (73-50 Little Neck Parkway; Floral Park, NY 11004). – thanks TimeOut for the suggestion:)

8.Oscar Wilde & 9. Lillie’s Victorian Restaurant. This restaurant was honestly the coolest one I have been to in a while. I mean would you expect anything less from my travel-agent Aunt?? I wouldn’t. This place is decked out with decorations and even has a haunted jack in the box. The dinner was scrumptious and I would recommend getting the muscles, burrata, and basically every drink on the menu. Just kidding, I am the gin queen so highly recommend the Pheobe Bridges & PJ Harvey!! SO GOOD!! They actually have a sister restaurant called Lillie’s Victorian that has the same vibe! This spot is less busy so if you’re not into crowds go here! Check them out here! Oscar Wilde NYC & Lillie’s Victorian Restaurant.

10. Café de L’enfer: ANOTHER crazy cool spot I N E E D to go to before Halloween is over! This reminds me a lot of The Red Room & even The Back Room with its Parisian Victorian vibes! Check it out here & read about it below!

“Café de l’Enfer is an absinthe and champagne bar inspired by the legendary Cabaret de l’Enfer in Victorian-era Paris and features cocktails created by famed mixologist, Sother Teague of Amor y Amargo. Guests are invited to escape from reality and join us in a gothic paradise while experiencing darkness at every corner and gloom at every turn. As you make your way to the underworld, you’ll walk through decor reminiscent of an abandoned Parisian theatre meets Ossuary, where you’ll feel engulfed by the spirits surrounding you move through the bar. Come for the drinks, stay for the darkness.”

Café de l’Enfer

For more NYC Halloween-themed bars, check out Secret NYC’s review on the 14 Best Halloween Bars In NYC To Celebrate Spooky Season. Some on my bucket list are 11. Beetle House, East Village , 12. The Auction House, UES & 13. Madame X, Greenwich Village. I have already been to the last bar they recommend, 14. Fraunces Tavern, FiDi, & absolutely LOVED IT- you must goo!

15. Haunted Escape Room: Get spooked at this escape room with haunted elements that will become great memories for years to come. Choose from either The Haunted Hotel, Rikers (the prison), and Game of Gold. Just from the looks of these, the rooms look so incredibly detailed so I would reserve right away!

16. Central Park Boats: This is a no-brainer one of the best things to do in NYC. The boats open from April to November and for obvious reasons are closed in the winter. Traveling here during Fall sets the perfect mood for a date, a friend’s get-together, or even a family outing in the greatest city in the world.

17. See a Broadway Show: Right now there are tons of shows that are on broadway and the most recent update is that Phantom of the Opera, after decades of running is soon to close its doors. If you have time to go- please support the show and watch it! I would love to see Beetlejuice since that’s the perfect show for spooky season!

18. Cityside Pumpkin Patch: If you’re looking for a family-friendly activity that will put you guys in the Halloween/Fall spirit, then this is the activity for you. Starting at $18 per person at The Summer Club in Queens, smash pumpkins, play scarecrow archery, eat delicious fall treats, enjoy a “not so haunted” house & much more!

Fall Activities in NYC & New York State: Long Island Edition

To my Long Island folks, can’t forget about you! Believe it or not, it’s actually pretty easy to commute by both train & car! If you’re looking for a lowkey day to get away from the hectic city life, these are the right places for you!!

19.Horseback Riding: This is the perfect activity for when the weather is starting to transition into fall. There is a very popular meme for NYC folks and it’s the many phases of the seasons. I’d like to call this era, the “false fall” because it’s not quite summer since 80-degree days are over, but the crisp air is just enough to feel like it’s Fall. I went to this place on Long Island and had a great time. They gave the group a tour and the ride lasted about 1.5 hours. If you are not sure where to go, then BINGO, here is your place! If you’re a horse-lover, I am sure you did this already. Pro Tip: if you get there early, you can check out the stables and pet the cute horses.

Here are a few Horseback riding places you should definitely check out on Long Island…

  1. The Bethpage Equestrian Center: book today
  2. New York Equestrian Center: book today

20. Fire Island Lighthouse They also recommend going to the Fire Island Lighthouse where there have also been some close encounters with spirits and shadows. “Be warned: this is where people have encountered mysterious shadows and heard ghostly laughs and doors mysteriously open and close”. You could take their word for it and drive past or enter if you dare! Thanks Trip Savvy for the recommendation!

21 .The Amityville Horror House If you have ever watched The Amityville Horror, (if not girl wyd?), then check out the house that started it all. I remember watching this movie in college and getting so spooked out. I feel really badly for the neighbors because yikes that’s a tough situation to deal with. After some extensive research, the iconic Amityville Horror house’s address “112 Ocean Avenue still exists but it has been renovated and the address is changed to 108 ocean avenue in order to discourage sightseers from visiting it” Check out the news article here about it, and get road-tripping.

22. Del Vino Vineyards: Fall vibes always have wine involved, sorry I don’t make the rules. Welcome to del Vino Vineyards, one of the cutest wineries I have been to. The service was excellent, the food was amazing, and overall a great experience. I would recommend arriving in the afternoon so you can build up an appetite for all the delicious foods you’re about to devour. Check it out here!

23. Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium: There’s something about starry nights that are so romantic and other times super haunted OOOOooOOooOoOo. Welcome to the Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium, a great day trip with exciting & insightful planetarium shows about space and the unknown that is slowly being discovered year after year. It is also a beautiful mansion that has some serious real estate so bring your A-game. Check it out here!

24. The Kings Park Psychiatric Center: Enter if you dare! I don’t think I have the guts to do this, but I mean I surprise myself at times. The Kings Park Psychiatric Center will give you the chills. It is one of the most haunted places to visit. Courtesy of Trip Savvy, they write how “People have reported hearing screams and other ghostly noises emanating from the long-abandoned building in Suffolk County. While you can’t go in, walking by it may be enough for a scary experience.” Here’s an article about it if you’re curious about it more! Thanks Trip Savvy for the recommendation!

Fall Activities in NYC & New York State: Westchester & Orange County Edition

So if you’re not ready to drive a whole 2 hours, then these places are for you!! Westchester & Orange County are your go-to spots. These are drives just around the 30-1hour mark depending on where you are in NYC.  I get it, you don’t want to dedicate a whole weekend to this. Accommodations can be quite expensive so these are the perfect day trips and even after-work events you can go to get in the Fall & Halloween spirit! These are iconic spots so I hope you enjoy it, start booking some day trips and sending out plans to family and friends.

Westchester County Edition

25. Headless Horseman: My Aunt used to live here so you already know this was a spot I went to growing up. This is a spooky town and deserves more attention because the legend is pretty iconic and shows that chivalry is truly dead (all puns intended). If you’re looking for the Sparks Notes version, here you go! They have amazing tours that give you a glimpse of life in the 1700s and hey, you might even bump into the ghost himself!

” ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow‘ tells the story of Ichabod Crane and his hapless attempt to win the heart and hand of Katrina Van Tassel in the context of a comical ghost story. Ichabod comes to Sleepy Hollow, New York, from his home state of Connecticut, to be the schoolmaster of the village. Sleepy Hollow’s most famous supernatural phenomenon is the ghost of the Headless Horseman, said to be a Hessian soldier who lost his head to a cannon ball during the Revolutionary War. The Horseman is seen most often riding by the church, where local historians say he was buried. He is believed to be always in search of his head. Ichabod is fascinated by this story, being especially interested (and prone to believe) in tales of the supernatural. “

26. Untermeyer Park: this is a hidden gem that looks like an escape to Europe. The Palace of Versailles has nothing on this and I haven’t even been here yet. That’s right, it’s on my bucket list too! I have heard nothing but great things about it, so you’ll have to check it out and let me know what you think of it! Check it out here!

27. The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze: Hudson Valley, 525 S Riverside Ave, Croton-On-Hudson, NY 10520: Pumpkin Blaze: Have you ever carved a pumpkin? No you haven’t. I hate to be blunt with you, but after attending this, your pumpkin carving will seem mediocre. Welcome to the Pumpkin Blaze, where over 7,000 pumpkins are hand carved. Take a tour in either the Hudson Valley or Long Island and see for yourself. This is the perfect, family-friendly activity that puts everyone in the Halloween mood. Check it out here!

Fall Activities in NYC & New York State: Orange County Edition

 28. Sugar Loaf Arts And Crafts Village Guild: Absolutely adored this cute little festival. Now, this is a hidden gem because everyone here was a local. They had cute little shops, great food, and amazing vendors. I am sure that they change businesses each year but I would recommend spending an afternoon here for sure! Check it out here!

29. Renaissance Faire: AHHH MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE FALL ACTIVITY. Behold the Renaissance Faire. I mean this is basically a medieval version of Disney World. The entire place is transformed into 14th and 15th-century Europe. Sorry, I’m going on a little side tangent here but have you ever played the Game of Life Before? Well, if you haven’t it’s a board game in that you choose what happens to you, what career path you take, what house you live in, how many children you have, and so on and so forth. I think it’s from this game that I fell in LOVE with the Tudor-style homes. I was meant to be born in the era and guess what? My favorite part is that you get to DRESS up!!! I ordered my clothes from Amazon and bingo, I felt like a true queen in her natural habitat. You’re going to want to spend the whole day here. Not only are there medical shops with cool clothes, accessories, gadgets, handmade crafts, and artwork, but delicious food and drinks and even a jousting show and other fun games as well. This place is super fun for families, couples, and friends. If you’re into that, I’d recommend getting a tarot card reading! Check it out here!

30. Fall Foliage Cruise with a hint of Oktoberfest: Oh man, the fall foliage is my favorite thing but can you believe I have not done this yet? This Fall Foliage cruise takes you straight from NYC (Circle Line Sightseeing at Pier 83) to Bear Mountain. From there we will embark on an Oktoberfest boat ride on the Hudson where we’ll see the fall foliage at its peak!! Later on, we’ll enjoy 3 hours to ourselves on Bear Mountain where we can hike, explore, and soak ourselves in nature before embarking on our journey back to the city. I love both the fall foliage and any boat ride so this is definitely an experience I am looking forward to 1000%!

Fall Activities in NYC & New York State: Hudson Valley & Catskills Edition

There’s nothing like a warm welcome to Fall than spending it in Upstate NY. About 1.5 to 2 hours from NY, we have a few places that are a must to see. Now I went to college in the Hudson Valley, so these are tips from quite the avid hiker & adventurer. I actually have a blog post dedicated to all of New Paltz bucket list-worthy activities but I’ll put my favorites below! Shall we?

New Paltz

Welcome to my favorite town in Upstate NY. I went to college here for 4 years and these are some of the top things to do in New Paltz, but I highly recommend reading the full post to get the full scoop on the best places to explore in the area!

https://thebrooklyniteabroad.com/top-21-places-to-explore-in-the-new-paltz-area/

New Paltz Hikes

Whenever I see hikes that I am interested in, I look them up on this amazing app called AllTrails. They give you accurate directions to the trails, reviews, pictures, and additional hikes that you could go on in the future. These are my top two hikes and I know you’ll absolutely love it!

31. Awosting Falls: A gorgeous, light hike with beautiful views of the fall foliage. Fall in love with fall and all of the beauties that nature has to offer! This is one of my favorite parts of living in New Paltz, seeing views like this. This is a hike a part of Minnewaska State Park and

32. Lemon Squeeze: So this was one of my favorite hikes because it’s at the iconic Mohonk Mountain House. If you’re a fan of Stephen King’s, “The Shining”, you’re in for a surprise because he got his inspiration from the very own Mountain House! Exciting right? Look around the hotel and you’ll find its eerie ambiance similar to the movie itself. But back to the hike. This is a more difficult hike with views from the Skytower. It’s a 7.9-mile hike that also incorporates some rock scrambling! Enjoy breathtaking views of the Hudson Valley. Trust me on this one, YOU HAVE TO DO IT. I have already gone twice and I cannot wait to continue the tradition with my New Paltz pals! Price: $15 per person

New Paltz Fall Activities

33. Overlook Pass: Not into hiking but want to get a nice photo? No worries, New Paltz has it all! Drive to the overlook pass and see breathtaking views of the Hudson Valley!

34. Dressel Farms: A great, family-friendly farm with both apple and pumpkin picking. Access to picnic tables and a distillery as well! Great photo ops and hayrides for all!

35. Wallkill View Farm: Another great farmers market with delicious treats and a wonderful selection of pumpkins and all things Fall! I went here with my friends and had such a great time! When you get a chance to come here, pick up an apple strudel, you will not regret it at all in the slightest.

Pro Tip: You should 1000% get the apple strudels- they are to die for!! It’s best to call them in advance to order them since they do sell out quickly!!

36. New Paltz Farmers Market: Every Sunday in the Summer and Fall, the New Paltz Open Air Market sells local and fresh produce. There is room for 18 vendors and 2 community groups each week! Look at their page for more information!

37. Brooklyn Cider House: This is arguably the best place to get the fall experience. Pick apples, eat delicious pizza, and enjoy a nice fire. Surrounded by good company you really cannot go wrong at all.

38. Kayak Along the Walkhill View River: Such a therapeutic activity, let me tell you! I am all about water sports and this one I just can’t get enough of this! If peace and serenity were an activity, it would be this one. The pictures for sure paint the picture of calm vibes. Check it out and book it for yourself! It’s super affordable and right in the heart of town!

39. NP Biking: For all my cyclists and bike enthusiasts. This is one of my favorite activities to do in New Paltz because as much as the ride is hard, the views are 10000% worth it!! Renting a bike is super affordable and the perfect activity that will have you craving all the lunch options that New Paltz has to offer!

40. Pho Tibet: I’d have to follow up on that lunch option after a long bike ride. Welcome to Pho Tibet, the most refreshing, tasty food that will fuel you up after a long workout! Highly recommend getting the chicken sandwich and the pho! Enjoy!!

41. Kaaterskill Falls: Now this hike in the Catskills is SUPER touristy, but it’s also BREATHTAKING so I highly recommend going at least one point in your hiking career! I went twice already and got to see the beautiful fall foliage which I literally never shut up about (sorry not sorry). There are beautiful trails nearby that are catered to different levels of difficulty. When I went there were lots of facilities and kids nearby so it just adds to the fact that this is not as difficult of a hike as the rest of the trails are in the Catskills.

https://thebrooklyniteabroad.com/ultimate-guide-to-hiking-in-new-york-state/

42. Catskill Mountain Railroad: Whether it is peak fall foliage, summer breezes, winter snowfalls, or flowers blooming in spring, the Catskills Railroad is your ticket to paradise!! I had such an amazing time here and the best part was that everything was super spontaneous. Driving back to NYC from the Adirondack mountains not having much of a plan turned out for the better. I called the office and they mentioned that we can buy tickets upfront even when the train is sold out. The reason is that they overbook in case people don’t show up. Make sure you call in advance in case their plans haven’t changed but 100% would do this again! My family went the week after and they approved. If you didn’t know, my family is hard to please so I hope that did it for you!! Book your tickets here and enjoy! This train ride takes you through the Catskills where there are amazing sights of the mountains and farmland. The ride is outdoors so dress accordingly. I would recommend going all the way to the front for the best pictures and views. The closer upfront you are, the fewer people obstruct your view. Since the railroad has windows on all sides, you still get the best views no matter where you go.

43. Bannerman Castle: An abandoned military warehouse lies the Pollepel Island, home of the one and only Bannerman Castle. It’s the perfect getaway close to home that will make you feel like you just embarked on a trip to Europe. Just in time for Halloween, get spooked by the haunted establishment that is so close to NYC!

“Once an uninhabited place, accessible only by boat, it was considered haunted by some Indian tribes and thus became a refuge for those trying to escape them. These superstitions and others promoted by later Dutch sailors make for many fanciful tales.”

Bannerman Castle

Mr Bannerman pays tribute to his Scottish descent as the castle resembles many of the famous castles across the pond. Check it out and better yet, leave a review since this place is on my bucket list as well!

How to get there: Courtesy of curbednyc, there is a Metro-North package that includes a train ticket from NYC to Beacon or Newburgh, a ferry ride, and also a guided tour of the island all for $35 for adults and $30 for kids

Fall Activities in NYC & New York State: Adirondacks Edition

Driving farther North, you get the Adirondack mountains, home to some of the greatest hikes, views, and experiences! If you’re like me and from NYC, you know that Bear Mountain, Harrison State Park, Minnewaska State Park, and closer mountains are PACKED with people. The best thing about driving 5 hours north is you really beat the crowds. I must say, before going on a hike, make sure you reserve your spot! All you have to do is make an account and get reserving!

44. Indian Head: This hike was on my bucket list for years, I mean YEARS. I have seen post after post and knew that this hike was going to meet every expectation. This hike was for sure right up our alley since I have quite the hiking and foliage bug in me. To top it all off, we were going during peak foliage season. Something I am still learning is how early to show up for hikes. Now I used to be really good at this, but lately, I have been in a more relaxed mode so we started the day a bit later! The hike is pretty unique to me because it’s really close to the Adirondack member club so the trail was pretty easy. (If you have hiked Mohonk Mountain, then it’s very similar to the SkyTop tower trail) The members have a cool perk where instead of hiking up the carriage road they have a cool bus going up if you like that. The rest of the hike was super fun and as a tip, I’d look out for the signage so that you don’t get lost. Download the trail maps so that you don’t get lost!

https://thebrooklyniteabroad.com/upstate-getaway-adirondack-mountains/

45. Phelps Mountain: This was such a riveting hike that could have gone South super quick. My boyfriend and I were supposed to hike Mount Marcy for his birthday and from this vision, we planned one of the most spontaneous trips I have ever gone on! As we were planning, I managed to find the cutest Airbnb that was only $65 a night- I mean what a steal!! We spent the day in the iconic New Paltz and then headed up to the Adirondack mountains. There’s a series of events that led to us hiking in the pitch black so I highly recommend leaving early. The 1.0-mile hike of Mount Phelps honestly felt like forever but the views at the top were amazing! Tiring but incredible! I could not wait to rinse off and relax. I would love to hike this another time when the weather cooperates! Check it out on all trails!

46. Railbiking: If you are looking for a way to see the fall foliage this semester, then you must try rail biking! It has been on my bucket list for the longest time, and it exceeded my expectations. It is a must-try activity to do because it’s family-friendly and exciting, and what better view than biking through the mountains on an abandoned railroad during the peak foliage? Does biking through a mountain excite you? Feel the rush of adrenaline yet? Here are three reasons why rail biking is the most thrilling thing to do this Fall. Book here

Bonus Fall Activities: Out-of-State Edition

So if you’re looking to seriously escape New York, then I have just the recommendations for you! These are all unique experiences that you should definitely add to your bucket list- let’s get into it, shall we?

47. The Lights Fest: The Lights Fest was certainly an experience! Grab your tickets in advance and plan the weekend out because it’s so magical being there. Once you arrive, you’re given your lantern, lighter, and I believe a market to decorate your lantern! There are food vendors for a quick bite or dinner if you didn’t eat yet and BAM, all you have to do is wait until it turns dark, and all together, they announce when it’s time to light the lanterns. The scenery is really fun and the live music definitely added to the ambiance. Check it out and see for yourself!

48: Hang Gliding in New Hampshire: If you’re someone who thrives off of adrenaline-inducing activities, then this one is for you!!! Welcome to New Hampshire, one of the most iconic locations to see the fall foliage. This excursion is expensive, but I think it is worth it. I recommend going with Morningside Flight Park. Since you can’t control your own camera, I’d opt to buy the SD card from them so you can hold onto the video forever!

https://thebrooklyniteabroad.com/2000-feet-in-the-sky-new-england-is-the-where-you-need-to-be-right-now/

49: Salem MA: Home of the famous Salem witches, this town is overflowing with Halloween energy 365 a year. If you’re like my family that has skills in their house year-round, you’d need to add this to your bucket list. Salem just got spookier with you there! I explored the town nearby called Beverly and it’s only a 10-minute drive to Salem!! I would recommend finding Airbnb in this town in case Salem is too expensive.

There You Have It

This is the result of three consecutive fall seasons traveling around NYC, New York State & beyond to get the best fall activities so I hope it’s everything you wanted Fall is absolutely my favorite season and it’s no question that I had the most fun writing this. As always, I will be updating this with new activities and more reviews so thank you guys so much for checking it out and I can’t wait to hear back from you guys on your favorite activities as well!
