The Brooklynite Abroad’s Impact: Giving Back
If you haven’t considered yourself a philanthropic person, think again. I too felt that way and after getting a Facebook ad to sign up for a biking fundraiser that’ll find a cause for children’s cancer, all of that changed. The support I received and the impact I made is a feeling that honestly might even be better than traveling! Your actions & voice matter so why not put them to good use? It has allowed me to feel closer to my community and learn more about myself. One of my goals is to inspire everyone to travel more, but also I hope my commitment to making this world a better place will encourage you all to think about ways to give back.
My Favorite Organizations To Donate Your Time Or Generous Funds To
- The Great Cycle Challenge: So as I was saying. It started with a Facebook ad I saw a few years ago and since then, I have ridden 1,048 mi & raised $4,440 to support the cause.
- Rescue Dogs Rock NYC: Having a rescue dog of my own who almost lost his life makes me particularly attached to this organization. I raised over $500 to support Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, which helps to pay for rescue dogs’ medical bills, adoption outreach makes me so happy knowing that dogs get a second chance to live a wonderful life with caring owners.
- God’s Love We Deliver: This is one of my favorite organizations to volunteer for because signing up is so easy and there are so many time slots to cater to your busy, travel-filled schedule.
Other Amazing Organizations To Donate To & Volunteer For
- I volunteered with Children’s Aid to pack backpacks to motivate summer reading for children, With Hearst I also volunteered with the Central Park Conservancy to de-weed one section of the park. I love children & volunteering to read a children’s story to little kids made my heart feel complete!
- With my job since working in 2021, I donated $1707, ($792 of that Hearst matched) to United Way Worldwide, Equal Justice Initiative & Guide Dog Foundation For The Blind Inc & The Great Cycle Challenge.
- On my next trip to Paris, I am hoping to work with Serve the City to volunteer with that Brooklyn energy.
There You Have It
Volunteering is so much fun and the more you do it, the more you’ll want others to join you and make a bigger impact. That amazing feeling, when you make a positive contribution to society, is far more impactful that any monument or excursion I have been to. The best part about it is that volunteering your time is free. It’s a wonderful way to give back and feel a closer connection to the community. Let me know your favorite organizations to volunteer to and I’ll be sure to put my time in! Hope this has inspired you to get out there and make an impact!
