Top Restaurants in Astoria (From A Local)

One of the most culturally diverse cities in the world, Queens has it all. Better yet Astoria, Queens has over 30 top restaurants to explore! After living in Astoria for a whole TWO years, I have eaten out at A LOT of restaurants. Growing up, that’s what my family loves to do- we’re big on eating, dining, and celebrating any and every accomplishment. So as that is passed down into my life, it’s the perfect opportunity to recommend the best restaurants to visit in Astoria! A couple of these places I have been multiple times and at this point, the owners know us- that’s how good these places are. Ready for the grand list- let’s do this!


Top 30 Restaurants To Try In Astoria 

If You’ve Never Been To Astoria Before

  1. Astoria Seafood: This is undoubtedly one of the best seafood spots you will find in NYC. Pro Tip: It’s BYOB and since the lines could get really long, bring two bottles- one for the line and one for dining! 
  2. Barzola: THE best food I have ever tasted. Just WOW! The chaulafan, bandera & empanadas dishes were my absolute favorites! The food is extremely rich in flavor and the location is near the Broadway station in Astoria. The place is super spacious for all crowds! Pro Tip: Get the Calelazo (a hot cinnamon cocktail) and the berry shake – 10/10
  3. Seva: Let’s just say a flight to India got a whole lot cheaper. My family & I have been going here for a long time & we LOVE it! Our favorites are the samosas (veggie & meat) and the classic tiki masala! Indoor & outdoor seating is available as well! Pro Tip: They have a great deal for three-course meals for only $25 that you could share with your partner/friend/sibling etc!
  4. Mombar: Egyptian food done right. This place has it all from the vibes and aesthetic to the freaking DELICIOUS food. One of the best foods I have ever tasted in my life. Pro Tip: This restaurant is a one-man show so be patient and enjoy!! Also, it’s BYOB
  5. Enthaice: Everything here is scrumptious. I’ve been here many times and have always had food that makes me want seconds and thirds. Pineapple fried rice, mango salad, masaman curry & Thai iced tea are my absolute favorites to get. Pro Tip: If you were stuck on what to get, masaman curry, mango salad, and Thai iced tea are the way to go! Dine outside for a more intimate vibe!

If You’re With Picky Eaters

  1. Milkflower: Hands down one of my favorite pizzas EVER. 10/10 recommend getting the soppressata pizza & the burrata because they’re both mouthwatering. The cute local spot has a spacious interior & seating great for everyone.  Pro Tip: If you’re going with someone get two different pizzas so that you mix & match! I’d definitely recommend going to Bar Dhalia afterward for a drink! 
  2. Bareburger: Looking for authentic burgers? Build your own burger with ox, bison, quinoa and so many unique add-ons that aren’t like any other spots! A local fav with so many locations around NYC! Pro Tip: They also have great happy hour deals that won’t disappoint! 
  3. SLDR: Fun, trendy & tasty burger spot has so many unique flavors that will make your mouth melt! My favorite is the Bao Town & Fried Chicken Sldr. Great customer service! Pro Tip: It’s the perfect post-nightlife spot since they’re open until 2 am every day!
  4. TSwirl Crepe: I still crave these crepes, that’s how good it is. TSwirl has both pastry crepes and sandwich crepes which are delicious. 10/10 recommend the Thai chicken crepes & every pastry crepe with fruit in it.
  5. Mom’s Bar: If you’re looking for a classic diner feel but with a little twist, this place is it. Coming here for dinner or weekend brunches is a must if you’re visiting! Pro Tip: Get the milkshakes. They’re probably one of the most extra places I have seen!
  6. Las Catrinas: The food here is SO DELICIOUS. My family ordered everything on the menu and shared it all. This is perfect for groups, date nights, friends’ outings, and more! Pro Tip: The al pastor taco margarita are my absolute favorite!

Quick Bites

  1. Champion Pizza: This place really delivers. I mean every slice is amazing and they have a great deal of 2 slices and a drink for $9. Pro Tip: Get the sausage and pepperoni slice- UGH so good!
  2. Taco Truck Outside of Madam Marie’s: First off, if you haven’t been to Madam Marie’s then wyd? Outside of the bar, is this delicious taco truck that has the BEST food. Pro Tip: They have $4 tacos & they take Zelle
  3. Que Rico: The most delicious pineapple beef empanadas and mouthwatering pastries here. The place was so spacious & festive & the people were so kind. Pro Tip: It’s right near the Steinway train stop so perfect to satisfy your food cravings while en route to your destination 
  4. Xi’an Foods (LIC): Spicy Ramen has quickly become one of my favorite foods. Highly recommend the spinach dumplings, noodles & the lamp burger. Pro Tip: They have locations all over NYC, but I’d recommend the one in LIC & Greenpoint.

If You Want Greek Food

  1. Aliada: Living in Astoria is like living in little Greece so you already know that the Greek restaurants here are going to be up to par. I love that they have great indoor and outdoor seating arrangements which makes it the perfect ambiance for couples and families. Pro Tip: 10/10 recommend the red Beets, Falafel, Branzino (Mediterranean Sea Bass), Swordfish Kebab, Chicken Kebab, Malagouzia (it’s very similar to Chardonnay) & Jumbo Shrimp

  3. Anissa Taverna: Again, Astoria is basically a little Greece! Every dish here is so good! Recommend getting bits and pieces of saganaki, octopus, baked clams, classic Greek salad, lemon potatoes, sea bass skewers, & calamari! Lovely place & a great ambiance. Pro Tip: If there is anything to get, it’s the LEMON POTATOES!
  4. Agnanti: As mentioned, Astoria is the CEO of Greek cuisine so you’re in for a good one and it’s actually my uncle’s favorite. Pro Tip: Go for a walk in Astoria Park afterward to walk off everything you just ate

If You’re Looking for an Intimate Date Night

  1. Woodbines (LIC): ADORE THIS PLACE! Been here 3 times already and can say I am ready to go back again. A great date night spot in the heart of LIC and around other great places to after! Pro Tip: I would recommend getting the cider, curry & tacos that were absolutely scrumptious.
  2. Sala: You know the ceo of Spain had to add this to the list. Sala is new to Astoria but not new to the industry (they had a location in Manhattan & certainly know how to run a business) Pro Tip: Join them for live flamenco shows, jamon iberico & delicious sangria
  3. Highwater: This is such a great spot with reggaeton music, the best food, and minutes from the train station. Enjoy fun drinks, tasty chips & salsa/guac which were absolutely scrumptious. Pro Tip: I’d recommend getting the My Mai Tai and it’s presented with fire.

Authentic International Cusine

  1. Cevabdzinica Sarajevo/Sarajevo Grill: Absolutely adored this place. It makes you feel like you’re actually in Bosnia and the food is so tasty. It’s perfect if you’re dining on a budget as well. Pro Tip: The cevapi & burek were my favs!
  2. Agnanti: As mentioned, Astoria is the CEO of Greek cuisine so you’re in for a good one and it’s actually my uncle’s favorite. Pro Tip: Go for a walk in Astoria Park afterward to walk off everything you just ate

  5. Ruta Mexican Cuisine: If you’re looking for an authentic Mexican spot, then this is the place for you! I really loved my huevos rancheros and the chips and salsa you get are so tasty as well! Pro Tip: They have great deals: 2 for 1 margs on weekends, happy hour is M-F from 4 pm-7 pm & Brunch every day from 12-4 pm!

If You Want To Host A Party

  1. Lunar Asian Bistro Rooftop: This is one of the coolest rooftops I have been to and it was extra special that it is in Astoria since that is pretty unique for the area. The sushi rolls are so scrumptious that you’ll definitely want more! Pro Tip: I highly recommend getting a table with a view right during sunset. 
  2. Mojave: Went here for an overpriced bday brunch but for bottomless drinks and delicious food- it all made sense. I would highly recommend the chicken & waffles along with sangria. Great location, super spacious & wonderful service! Pro Tip: This place is great for groups and for celebrations
  3. Bad Habits: I had hosted my party here and it was so fun! Whether you’re coming for a birthday brunch or a dinner, this is the best spot with a great fusion of Hispanic and Asian cuisine!

If You Want To Watch Sports

  1. 3308 Eats & Drinks: Whether you’re watching a sports game here, smoking hookah with friends, or jamming to reggaeton music, this spot is all fun and games. Pro Tip: You may be greeted with free tequila shots & I’d definitely come here to watch sports games since there are TVs everywhere. 
  2. Pig Beach: One of the best sports bars to watch any game is right here in Astoria. This place is huge so you could legit get lost, haha. Pro Tip: Get there very early before a game- people will hunt down the tables to secure a spot!
  3. Trestle: This place is a local favorite and for good reason. The brunches here are my particular favorite and you get a really good bank for your buck. It’s also two blocks from the train!! Pro Tip: Their happy hour is from 4-7 pm and Friday 12 pm-7 pm

The best of Astoria. I mean as each month goes on, this list is bound to grow. Given that Queens is one of the most diverse if not THE most diverse city in the world, you could quite literally find food from every single country here and that’s the beauty of it!
