Episode 8: The Two Year Anniversary of Cutting My Study Abroad Experience In Half, No I’m Still Not Over It

Hoy es quince de marzo de dos mil veintidós y no es un día regular para mí. Dos anos pasado, he realizado que necesitaba a volver a Estados Unidos después solamente ochos semanas en mi semestre de Europa. Coronavirus ha afectado Europa y especialmente España y fue difundiendo rápido alrededor el mundo y fue necesario para dejar.

Today is 15th March of 2022 and it is not a regular day for me. Two years ago, I realized that I needed to return to the United States after only eight weeks during my semester abroad in Europe. Coronavirus has affected Europe and Spain specifically. It was spreading rapidly around the world and it was necessary to leave.

Me gustaba todo sobre Estaña, especialmente a donde estudiaba, Seville. Porque he experimentado viviendo en los ciudades grandes, NYC, por ejemplo, quiero experimentada otros ciudades pequeñas. Es la razón por estudiando en un cuidad pequeño en Nueva York, New Paltz y también en un cuidad pequeña en Andalucía, Seville.

I liked everything about España, especially where I studied, Seville. Because I’ve experienced living in big cities, NYC, for example, I want to experience other small cities. It is the reason for studying in a small city in New York, New Paltz, and also in a small city in Andalusia, Seville.

La ciudad de Seville fue magical. Bonita con historias y experiencias ricas. Cuando me di cuenta que necesitaba volver a Estados Unidos y sentí muy triste. He planeaba este semestre por AÑOS y necesitaba dejar. Ninguno podría predecir coronavirus y es una lección que la vida no se detiene por nadie. Eventos igual de estos, incluso en los peores momentos. Para mí, siento robado de unas experiencias de viajando en Europa. Fue una desastre para dejar España porque había no vuelos y las fechas para dejar habían cambiado rápido.

The town of Seville was magical. Pretty with rich stories and experiences. When I realized I needed to go back to the US and I felt very sad. I planned this semester for YEARS and needed to leave. Nobody could predict coronavirus and it is a lesson that life does not stop for anyone. Events just like these, even in the worst moments. For me, I feel robbed of traveling experiences in Europe. It was a disaster to leave Spain because there were no flights and the dates to leave had changed quickly.

La transición después he llegaba a Estados Unidos fue difícil y especialmente para mi salud mental. En este tiempo, fue explorando mi nueva casa, barrio, y otros partes de Seville y dos días después, fue aburrida en mi cuarto en Nueva York por cuatro meses. 

The transition after I arrived in the United States was difficult and especially for my mental health. At this time, I was exploring my new home, neighborhood, and other parts of Seville and two days later, I was bored in my room in New York for four months.

Durante estes cuatros meses en cuarentena, aprendí mucho sobre yo mismo y las regalos de viajando! A pasar de que no fui viajando, fui tratando ser positiva. Una meta por mis viajes en España, fue aprendiendo español mejor de la empieza de mis viajes. Durante cuatro meses, escuchaba música latina, lo visto muchos episodios de Las Chicas del Cable, Vis a vis, y La Casa de Papel. Fui determinada y escuchaba todos las canciones, al repetir estos, para mejorar mi fluidez. Pienso que yo soy buena ahora, la verdad?

During these four months in quarantine, I learned a lot about myself and the gift of traveling! After I didn’t travel, I was trying to be positive. One goal for my travels in Spain was to learn Spanish better from the beginning of my travels. For four months, she listened to Latin music, watched many episodes of Las Chicas del Cable, Vis a vis, y La Casa de Papel. I was determined and listened to all the songs, by repeating them, to improve my fluency. I think I’m good, right?

Pensando en mi viaje aprendiendo español, tengo que decir que he recorrido un largo camino. Me burlaron y me juzgaron por intentarlo y eso no me detuvo y no debería impedir que nadie aprendiera algo nuevo. Mi compañera de cuarto en Espana, Julissa, escuché me hablando en español cuando fuimos al discoteca, y dice que ella estoy muy orgullosa de mi. Te quiero Julissa!!

Thinking about my journey learning Spanish, I have to say, I came a long way. I was made fun of and judged for trying and it didn’t stop me and shouldn’t stop anyone from learning something new. My roommate in Spain, Julissa, heard me speaking in Spanish when we went to the nightclub, and she says she’s very proud of me. I love you, Julissa!

Cuando tratando a viajar a España otro vez, fue cancelada porque la variant de Delta y la distribución  de las vacuna fue lentos en Europa, no era segura para viajar en estes condiciones. A pesar de todo lo que me impide visitar, te prometo que volveré a visitar España y cuando ese día suceda, ¡estaré en otro planeta!

When trying to travel to Spain again, it was canceled because Delta’s variant and distribution of the vaccines were slow in Europe, it was not safe to travel in these conditions. Despite everything stopping me from visiting, I promise you that I will visit Spain again and when that day happens, I will be on another planet!

No puedo esperar para viajar a España otro vez y tendré experiencias buenas con mis amigos, haciendo todos actividades, viendo ciudades magnificos que me perdí. Mis viajes en dos mil veintiuno fue cancelada, pero soy determinada para ir. Yo sabe que mis viajes en España no están acabo!! Si estáis curiosos, todavía hablo con mis amigos en España. La distancia no le importa! Salud por mis amigos internacionales! Seville y España, tienes una lugar especial en mi corazón- para siempre.

I can’t wait to travel to Spain again and will have good experiences with my friends, doing all the activities, seeing the great cities I missed. I know that my trips to Spain are not over!! If you are curious, I still talk to my friends in Spain. The distance does not matter! Cheers to my international friends! Seville and Spain, you have a special place in my heart – forever.
