Bucket List Destinations

Best Places to Visit In The World By Month

It’s no question we’re all wondering about the best places to travel per month. Not everyone gets the summers off like teachers & planning ahead is a great idea to get the best flights. It’s no wonder that the travel blogger aka me has compiled a number of bucket list destinations to visit and well, let’s just say, we’d hate to travel at the WRONG times- that would be an ultimate mistake. Traveling to the Caribbean during hurricane season and Bali during intense monsoons given the rise in climate change issues we are facing is why this blog post is so important to read. Also, why would you risk not getting flight credit, and refunds when you can plan ahead, be smarter and be more intentional with your travel plans?

Don’t get trapped into buying flights just because they are the cheapest. You could be flying to a destination at the WORST time of year. Nobody wants to go to Morocco in the dead of heat unless that is your cup of tea. Reading this blog post will also open your eyes to sustainable tourism and how you can make a difference by traveling during the “shoulder” and “off” seasons (these are typically better times to visit certain destinations where the weather is not too drastic and helps to prevent over-tourism).

Lastly, thank you for your interest in reading this because not only does it excite me that you’re planning your travels and getting inspired, but you’re adding new destinations to your list! Speaking of lists, here is my ultimate bucket list, presenting the Best Places to Visit In The World By Month so you can plan ahead and start asking your go-to’s!

Key Definitions

Before we get into this post, let’s talk about some key definitions of some terms you’ll be reading about A LOT. Overall, it’s not always best to go during the off-season or shoulder season, and doesn’t necessarily mean to never visit a destination during its peak season so, in this post, you’ll get a nice and healthy balance of all three!

has different opinions, but these are the most popular times to travel to a location. Traveling during these times leads to over-tourism. Additionally, the prices tend to be higher at this time so keep that in mind when you’re traveling.

Off-Season: The off-season is one of the least popular times to visit a destination. Now you have to be careful that it’s not doing extreme weather that could be potentially dangerous. Visiting locations during this time is the cheapest all around. Flights, hotels, you name it- it’s a bit cheaper. Now “off” season doesn’t mean “worse” time to go. Some locations don’t have a bad “off-season” since they’re nice all year round. An example of this is Hawaii. There really is no “off” season, but periods where it’s a bit more popular.

Shoulder Seasons: Shoulder seasons are the few months in-between the “off” and “peak” seasons. It’s generally my favorite time to visit a destination and that is where most of these recommendations are coming from. Typically, the shoulder seasons are in the spring and fall, when the weather isn’t too extreme. Traveling during these times is my favorite because they are both my favorite seasons. Also, given that I live in NYC, the overwhelming feeling of tourists on your back all of the time doesn’t sound too appealing. Now give or take, you’re going to find yourself traveling during the busy season, but ways to tackle this is to choose destinations

As I said, I am super excited to share with you my list and the top reason why traveling to the destination at this time is the best! Shall we?

I do earn some commissions off of GetYourGuide tours but I promise, they’re all worthy & so much fun!

January

Within this selection of January getaways, there is a combination of “let’s embrace the cold” & “let’s escape it”. January is a month signifying new beginnings, a fresh start and in my opinion, going on a vacation during this month is a great reset. Talk about a wonderful way to set your goals, manifest your year, and live your life to the fullest. For some jobs, PTO is refreshed every year so you should take advantage of having this fresh slate and take some days – the year will be over before you know it! This time is optimal to travel to any destination under the equator (where the seasons are reversed) & the Caribbean to avoid hurricane season. I have some favorites down below and will continue to grow this list as the years go on. Ready to get some inspiration for January travel? Let’s get into it!

January At A Glance: US Virgin Islands, Windham, NY & Egypt

US Virgin Islands

Visiting the US Virgin Islands during this time was an experience like no other. I loved escaping the cold weather and getting 70-80 degree sunny days. I went on a yacht trip for 10 days with my friend Jillian so most of the time we were out at sea, docked at the bay, and strolled around secluded beaches. The story behind this trip was super fun and I can’t wait to launch a podcast about it. In short, it was super spontaneous and a trip that I’ll never forget! Although this is the peak tourist season, it’s THE best time to go and know you’ll enjoy every bit of it. If you’re looking for other times to visit TheTravelLemming.com to find out the best trip for your needs. Looking to travel for the best weather, the cheapest prices, or for some peace and quiet? Top things to do in the USVI: Virgin Islands National Park, Cruz Bay, Coral Bay, Christmas Cove, Francis Bay Beach, Maho Bay Beach, Cinnamon Beach

Windham, New York, USA

If you’re looking to enjoy a New York winter, then the town of Windham NY is the place for you. Now, you’re in for a real treat as it’s such a hidden gem. The small-town vibes are really precious and you have to see it for yourself to get a glimpse of a true winter wonderland. I have grown up going skiing here for the past ten years and I always have such great memories attached to them. January is peak season when you truly get the snowbird experience with hopeful snowfall! There are two ski mountains nearby called Windham & Hunter and I have such great things to say about both of them! If you’re looking for more NY winter inspiration, check out my post on the best winter activities in NY and additionally the best ski resorts to visit!

Top things to do in Windham, Ski at both Windham Mountain & Hunter Mountain, Get a little wine at the iconic Ze Windham Wine Bar, Hike to one of the best viewpoints at Kaaterskill Falls, & grab breakfast every day (yes it’s that good) at the Catskill Mountain Country Store

Get Your Guide always has the BEST tours so if you’re looking for a solid 13 hour of Belleayre Resort, check it out here &

Egypt

I’ve always been interested in Egyptian culture ever since I made so many Egyptian friends in high school. I learned basic phrases that I actually still use today. I think that it would be an amazing trip to venture off to Egypt when the time is right. I say that because I feel like a 10-day trip maximum is needed and it’s very hard to get 10 days off of work. Given that the Egyptian sun could really be that intense, the coolest month to travel to Egypt is in January. I also recommend budgeting and inviting tours to ensure your safety as well. This great company has tours for both Egypt and Jordan that look incredible! The best times to visit Egypt are during the months of October and April, so if January doesn’t seem like the best fit for you, there are plenty of other times to visit this amazing destination.

February

If you hadn’t booked your January trip, then this month is going to be a must for escaping the cold weather. Traveling during Valentine’s Day and even President’s Day when some offices have off is a great time to utilize bank holidays and make the most of your PTO. I have a pretty extensive list that varies from colder to warmer climates so there is something for everyone.

February At A Glance: Nordic Countries: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Colorado, Stowe VT, Colombia, New Orleans, LA

Nordic Countries, Finland, Sweden, Norway

The first place I thought of was the nordic countries because seeing the northern lights is just so dreamy. I have been them before in April when I went to Iceland, but I would love to visit during the prime winter season. Yes, I want snow, lots of snow. Snowmobiling is for sure on the bucket list. I actually had a trip planned to Sweden & Finland that I had to cancel due to the war in Ukraine, but rest assured, I would LOVE to do it again!

Top Things to do In Finland, Sweden Norway: Escape to Lapland, visit Santa Clause at Romanevi (hometown of Santa Clause), learn about some history at the Stockholm Medieval Museum, Spa time at https://astadvingard.se/

Colorado, USA

If you’re a snowbird, then skiing/snowboarding out west is an experience of a lifetime and I have yet to do it so I’m just living vicariously through Skiing in Colorado is definitely on the bucket list. The weather during this time is amazing. The mountains have this powder snow that I have yet to experience. I would definitely recommend getting the Ikon or Epic pass. Once ski lift ticket is about $200. The pass being around $400-$500 is a MONEY SAVER!!

Top Things to do In Colorado: Vail Resort, Breckenridge Resort, Colorado Festivals, Rocky Mountain National Park

Stowe, Vermont, USA

Another bucket list skiing destination is this amazing spot! For reasons very similar to Colorado, there’s something so special about experiencing a winter wonderland while skiing. Now if Colorado is too far and you’re on the east coast, then Stowe is the place to be! If you’re interested in skiing this year, I would definitely recommend getting the Ikon or Epic pass. Once ski lift ticket is about $150. The pass being around $400-$500 is a MONEY SAVER!! Ski a few times and get your money’s worth!

Top Things to do In Stowe: Skiing at Stowe Resort, Snowmobiling, Dogsledding, Burlington Brewery Tour (1hr drive away)

Colombia

Colombia has such a rich culture & history along with memorizing landscapes that will blow your mind away. In essence, no matter what your interests are, there is always something to do here & something that everyone will love. Coming from someone who is of Hispanic descent, visiting a country that would be able to help me learn Spanish is a learning experience in itself. South America during the winter time is ALWAYS a good idea because the weather is reversed in the Southern hemisphere so it’s Summer weather over there and absolutely breathtaking. I am venturing on a trip here during this time and cannot wait! Flights are looking super cheap, so I’d definitely hop on it while you can!

Top Things to do In Colombia: Salsa dancing in Cali, Explore the beautiful beaches and parks in Cartagena, Serranía de Chiribiquete, Visit a coffee farm, Tatacoa Desert, Cuidad Perdida (Lost City), Tayrona Park, & more!

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

There’s something about New Orleans that is so refreshing and like a mini trip to Europe. In this beautiful city, you can see inspiration from Spain & France, who once colonized the state. Mardi Gras is another reason to come here for obvious reasons. If you’re looking for a more low-key time to go, then November is your best bet!

Top Things to do In New Orleans: French Quarter, Cafe Du Monde, New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum, St. Louis Cathedral, Garden District, City Park & more

March

March is one of the worst times to be on the East Coast. I don’t make the rules. The weather is still so cold for almost approaching spring time and it’s just not it. You might find yourself with one nice day, but then it’s immediately followed by snowy days that end up turning into brown slush. For this reason (and you only need one to just book it) it’s time to jet set.

March At A Glance: Australia, Costa Rica, St. Augustine, FL, Charleson, SC, Malaysia

Australia

Australia is one of those destinations that you’d need to allot about 2 weeks of time to go on and with work, taking off for a whole half month is just not in the cards for me. From the beautiful Great Barrier reef to Bondi Beach, it’s best to go here because it’s the most affordable to visit during these times. What’s especially cool about autumn in Australia is that “the days are sunny and the nights are warm”. Australia during this time is considered the “shoulder season” where it is slightly cooler. It goes all the way from March-May!

Best Blogs To Your Plan Trip to Australia

Costa Rica

By far this is one of my top travel destinations for 2023. The cost of living is extremely affordable, and outstanding nature from waterfalls to volcanoes and gorgeous beaches, it’s truly a trip you cannot miss. I have found flights from NYC for as low as $227 & you can find yourself getting pretty sweet deals on food, lodging, and excursions & more!! Visiting in March is ideal because you miss it’s rainy and hurricane season, making it the perfect time with optimal weather to enjoy sunny Costa Rica. As you’re looking at things to do, you’ll notice that it’s mostly on the left side of the country; however, the right side is BEAUTIFUL & you can’t miss it. Multi-day tours are my new favorite thing and checking out Tortuguero National Park is a must. With an all-inclusive style trip, meals, taxi, hotel pickup and drop off, and accommodations for two nights WITH guides, I mean this is a no-brainer! Check it out here! “From San Jose: 3-Day Tortuguero National Park Excursion” & if you’re looking for just a one-day excursion check this out “San Jose: Tortuguero Park Day Tour with Breakfast & Lunch”

Charleston, South Carolina, USA

If you’re a history buff then this place is 1000% for you. Dive into Charleston, South Carolina head first with all of the American history facts you need to win trivia for life. This charming city is for sure on my bucket list and especially during this time to avoid the drastic temperatures [either from March to May or from September to November] (peace luv shoulder seasons).

Top Things to do In Charleston, South Carolina: Waterfront Park, Rainbow Row, Angel Oak, Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, Enjoy lovely ” farmers market on Marion Square.” – ty T&L , ghost tour, Visit Beaufort, SC, Prohibition Pub Crawl

St. Augustine, Florida, USA

Another town very similar to New Orleans in that there is an abundance of Spanish colonial architecture that will make you feel like you’re in Spain. A cool fun fact about this place is that it’s the United States’ oldest city that dates back to Spanish colonization. If you’re just as excited as me to venture off here, it’s ideal to from here from March to May to avoid drastic heat. Click this link for some inspiration for great attractions and things to do in the one and only, St.Augustine!

Malaysia

Solely for the weather, it’s best to visit Malaysia for their dry season from March to May. If you’re looking to combine your trip with another country, I’d definitely pair both of these since they’re in close proximity. From the beautiful landscapes of the beaches & highlands to thrilling & humbling tours throughout the islands, elephant sanctuaries & the iconic Batu Caves, it’s no wonder that this is a notable stop for most travelers.

April

In my opinion, April is a very underestimated month for travel. With mild weather throughout, there are a number of amazing destinations to visit for a lower price than during peak season. As the go-to shoulder season month, April weather is perfect for outdoor excursions, and adventure, and don’t even get me started on the transition from winter to spring wardrobe. Layers are always a must for traveling during transition weather, but even better for packing. Personally, I would love to travel every year during April and after this list, you will too!

April at a Glance: Spain, Japan, Argentina, Amsterdam, Grand Canyon, Puerto Rico

Spain

So I actually think Spain can be visited during three particular times. Either in April, June & September. I studied abroad here, more specifically in Seville, and can say that this is hands down one of the most beautiful destinations I have had the pleasure of visiting and even more living in. I would 10000% times recommend spending more time here because you can take day trips from Seville to the other regions of Andalucía (Cádiz, Ronda, Setenil de las Bodegas, Granada, Málaga, Córdoba & more! If you’re planning on staying longer, you can take a bus to Lagos, Portugal! I have so much more to share about Spain since it is literally my favorite country. What is particularly amazing about visiting Spain, Andalusia in April is you have the iconic Semana Santa festival and Feria. Semana Santa is a week-long celebration leading up to Easter. Since Spain is really religious, you can find precessions every day and it’s a super cool experience. Also in April, look forward to Feria which is in short a week-long fair in the city center. Spaniards wear festive, cultural dresses and the town just lets loose and has a great time. Two experiences that sometimes line up really close to each other so if you can make both, definitely go!

Japan

Japan has such a unique and fascinating culture that would honestly give me 1000% culture shock and in the best way. I have not traveled to Asia yet and would love for this or Thailand to be my first one. Not only do I love sushi and would love to try authentic Japanese food, but of course, visiting Mario Kart World has got to be on the top of my list soon! Experiencing high-tech innovations such as the bullet train & natural wonders like the cherry blossom festival reminds me that there is truly so much more to see in this world. If you have the time check out @findingfiona, she’s a travel/lifestyle blogger that has a ton of videos on recommendations to see in Japan that make me want to book a flight ASAP!

Argentina

In order to avoid the touristy crowds & peak season, go during the shoulder seasons (Oct-Mid Dec & April – Mid June). From Igazu Falls to the glaciers & tango performances and cultural experiences, Argentina was never on my bucket list initially, and looking more into it, I couldn’t be more excited to venture off here and see it for myself.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

If you love flowers, springtime & biking, then Amsterdam in April is the place to be. A true New York Spring doesn’t actually exist anymore. Climate change has killed shoulder seasons & breaks my bank account on allergy medicine. The constantly changing temperatures just couldn’t do it for me so it’s nice to go elsewhere and experience it. What I love about Spring is the outfits. I ADORE a European spring fashion moment and need to experience a cute bit ride throughout the streets of Amsterdam.

Arizona, USA

Unless you’re into scorching temperatures in Arizona’s deserts, visiting the Grand Canyon during these shoulder seasons (March-May), you’re bound to have a great time with great weather & avoid the touristy crowds. Additionally, rainfall is low during this time. As an avid hiker, it’s no question that this destination is on my bucket list. Rafting in the Grand Canyon is another bucket list excursion that is ideal to go in April because that is when the snowfall is starting to melt and that is when the runoff is ideal for those wild rapids. If you’re looking for a cool movie to watch that’ll get you excited for your trip, I highly recommend The River Wild. It’s a story about this family that plans to go on a water rapids trip with just the family but turns out they run into a few extra stragglers. Meryl Streep, the main actress is phenomenal and it seriously has you on your toes. They also have a lot of tours out of Las Vegas which would be good if you’re looking to cross off a few states on your list!

Puerto Rico

2 words, that’s it- complete paradise. This Caribbean getaway is exactly what you need to get your relaxation & adventure on in the same trip. My parents went here for one of their anniversaries and had THE best time. You get to learn about so much history, explore the wonderful nature that is on the island, and soak up some sun on its fantastic beaches. If you’re into reggaeton music, this is the place to listen to it! I have a great playlist to listen if you’re interested in getting familiar before you go!

May

May is peak shoulder season month, which is why it is one of my FAVORITE times to explore & get out there!! Around the globe, temperatures are pretty moderate and since it’s not exactly spring or summer (that in-between month) flights could be found at a cheaper price for many destinations making it not only affordable but sustainable as well.

May at a Glance: Ireland, Turkey, Bali, Tunisia, Jordan, Peru, Ecuador

Ireland

The best time to travel is either March & May or September & November. This is because of that shoulder season we mentioned earlier. The weather is that PERFECT in-between that is so pleasant. I dressed in layers & got blessed with no rain. Typically these are the times when you don’t run into many touristy crowds, but Ireland’s weather is perfect to visit at any time of year. I went to see the Cliffs of Moher & it was a bit cloudy & misty from the weather so sometimes it might be a good idea to also consider going in the summer. For going from the end of April to the beginning of May, the weather was great, and cannot complain! There are so many amazing things to do here such as the iconic Cliffs of Moher, Blarney Castle, & the ring of Kerry.

Cork & Kerry: Crack Jenny, Ring of Kerry Tour, Blarney Castle, Cork City FC

Turkey

As I said, May is the best month to travel & visit any country with extreme heat. Venture off to Cappadocia and ride the hot air balloons, pay respect to the country’s religion & history at the ancient mosques, embark on day cruises around the water & soak up some sun on the beaches. The USD is really strong here so you’d be able to get every nickel’s worth (1 Turkish Lira=.05 USD).

Bali

Also amazing to visit in June & September is BALI. Visiting during this time is actually the more expensive time since visiting at the less busy times is during the peak rainy season, it’s best to eat a few extra bucks to ensure a great trip. If you think it’s worth the discount, look it up online, monsoon season is intense. The flight might definitely be pricey and cost you two days of PTO, but visiting monkeys in their natural habitat to the rice terraces & spas, and temples all around, Bali is bound to be a good time. Since the currency and conversion value are amplified, your money is doubled here, making it much more affordable.

Tunisia

In both the months of April & May, North Africa is the place to be during these shoulder season months & the combination of both Grecian & North African history is remarkable. From the beaches & deserts to mountains & gorgeous cities, experiencing & appreciating Tunisian culture is nothing short of bucket-list worthy. If you’re an American, then your USD is worth 3x the amount. The cost of living there is very affordable, allowing you to seriously stretch your dollar. Flights are pretty long, so I’d recommend flying into a closer European country and then hopping on a smaller flight!

Jordan

Whether visiting from March to May or October to November, Jodan is all the rave & a bucket list destination INDEED. This is slowly becoming more and more touristy *cough cough The ancient city of Petra* & nonetheless, a place you have to visit at least once. I really love the blogger, “Packs Light”. Gaby is an inspiring woman who left her engineering job to travel the world. Her description of Jordan is nowhere near how I’d describe it, so I’m attaching an excerpt of her feature in this blog, “The Jordan Diary”,

“The Middle East is Gabby’s “favorite region in the world” and visiting Jordan has always been on her bucket list. Upon arriving in the kingdom, Gabby quickly realized Jordan’s impressive history, biblical significance, and ancient characteristics, and was “astonished to see how many once-in-a-lifetime experiences” the country offers. During her stay, she visited renowned places such as the historic Nabatean city of Petra, the Dead Sea, which is the lowest point on earth, and Jesus Christ’s Baptism Site. She also experienced “legendary Jordanian hospitality,” “visually beautiful” local food, and wonderful communities, making her trip one she will never forget.”

When she said that the Middle East is her favorite part of the world, I feel if I ever traveled there it might be my favorite too. Peru

Aside from being home to the iconic Machu Picchu & rainbow mountains, the indigenous culture of Peru, magical deserts, rainforests, & beaches are just a few reasons to witness these natural wonders in person. The best times to visit are during their dry season in May & October!

I started watching this documentary that showed the hidden wonders & the impact that pre-Ice Age indigenous had on society and, to say the least, it was incredible. At a time with little few advances in civilization, what they were able to achieve was just impressive. I love traveling to South America because it gives me an opportunity to freshen up my Spanish, eat delicious foods, and listen, hear, and experience the culture, which to me is what traveling is all about.

URGENT: As of December 2022, there is currently a lot of political tension and it’s recommended not to go to Peru. I would always check online to see if there are any new updates & monitor constantly. Sometimes, in situations like this, since the demand to travel there is lower, the prices decrease so don’t get caught up in that great flight deal.

Ecuador

During the months of May & June – November, traveling to Ecuador should be at the top of your list! Ecuador, like Peru & Colombia, is an incredible country to visit in the northern part of South America. Even though they are close together, each of them has a unique culture that you should visit on its own. What’s even more special about this country for me is that is where my family is from. Going in June is ideal since you skip their rainy month (April) & dive head first into endless sunshine. Depending on where in Ecuador you want to be will dictate which month is ideal. Ecuador is home to beaches, mountains & its very own Galapagos islands. If you’re looking to visit the islands, check it out from Dec-May! Since both Ecuador & Galapagos have the same month to travel to, May is the perfect one!

Summit the Volcán Chimborazo, visit the cities of Guayaquil, Cevedo, Quito & Cuenca, and Baños for the beautiful mountains, llamas & entrance to the Amazon, Montanita & Olon for its beaches & Cevedo, another local town! Ride the Devil’s Nose for a scenic view & if you have time venture off to the Galapagos Islands.

June

June is another great month to travel since kids are still in school and flight prices aren’t too ridiculous. Technically this isn’t a “shoulder season” month, but it really could be. If you have saved your time off, then it’s time to jet set.

June at a Glance: New York, NY, Madeira Portugal, United Kingdom, Albania

New York

If you haven’t experienced a New York summer, then this is the best time to see what it is all about. Growing up in NYC, there is a different energy from New Yorkers at this time of year. Winter months are typically tough on us mentally so you’re really going to witness serotonin levels to the max. From seeing a Broadway show to experiencing the energy at Washington Square Park, bottomless brunches, hiking day trips & our many amazing NYC beaches, NYC during the summer is my favorite.

Top Things to do In New York: Visiting the iconic skyscrapers is a must. For the best views of the Empire State Building, Freedom Tower, and Chrysler Building check out The Edge, the Freedom Tower & the Brooklyn Bridge. Since I am a NYC expert, I sorted them into different categories!

Parks: Brooklyn Bridge Park, Central Park, Prospect Park, Domino Park, Little Island, High Line

Beaches: Brooklyn Bridge Park, Coney Island, Rockaway Beach, Central Park, Jacob Riis Beach, Jones Beach

Favorite Restaurants: Xi’an Foods, Whit’s End, Boqueria, Barzola, Michael’s of Brooklyn, Lenny’s Clam Bar, SONG, Enthaice, Milkflower,

Bars: The Back Room, Slate, Madam Marie’s, 3308 Broadway, Bohemian Bar, The Skylark, Vida Verde

Madeira, Portugal

Now the best time is to go in April to October which is a lot of time. What’s magnificent about going to Maderia in particular is that it has a rainforest climate offers significant prime time, but also playing devli’s advocate, that much time that it is not recommended too much to go! Aside from going June, I’d also recommend September & October so you can get the off-peak prices, crowds & excellent experience! Maderia has so much to offer & is an island that has been coined “the Hawaii of Europe”. For us East Coast folks, that’s way more appealing than 10 hours. Since I have a friend who is living there now, she says that once a week they have great direct flights from NYC that are too hard to resist!

Hike the Pico to Pico and 25 Fontes trails, see the traditional homes of Santana, have a tasty bite at the mercado dos lavradores, ride in a cable car, gaze at the botanical gardens in Funchal, visit the volcanic pools, explore the enchanted terraces & more!

United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland)

From March – June, the UK, England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland, is a beautiful region and could definitely be visited within a week’s time at a minimum to really get a feel. Early June is the best time to visit the UK since they are notorious for its constant rain. Since it’s usually murky and gloomy, the summer sunshine, little rain & longer daylight will allow you to enjoy your time. There are tons of things to do & I would check out my blog post for the best things to do in Scotland. What’s super convenient is that lots of flights fly in and out of London making it a great hub spot to bounce in and out from. You should be wary of the endless flight delays that come from London’s Heathrow Airport and be sure to just bring a carry-on since lots of luggage gets lost and could cost you an inconvenience throughout the trip.

Scotland: Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile, Edinburgh Vaults, Watch a traditional Scottish Ceilidh, overlook the city at Arthur’s Seat

Wales: Cardiff Castle – the Arab Room, Conwy Castle, Dan-yr-Ogof caves, Brecon Beacons National Park

Northern Ireland: Giant’s Causeway, Titanic Belfast, National Trust – Carrick-a-Rede, Dunluce Castle, Game Of Thrones Tour

Albania

One of the hidden gems of Europe, Albania is a cheap alternative to many expensive European summer destinations since its cost of living is lower. It’s recommended to go during the shoulder seasons (April-June & Sept-Oct) so you avoid the busy crowds. This makes it fairly easy to budget a trip and recommend flying into a major airport and then making a longer trip from it. The history of this country is really amazing. With its history from the Ottoman Empire and a mesh of Muslim & Christian people, it’s a great place to enjoy the Mediterranean on a budget.

July

July is the peak time to go to travel because it’s right when school is out so everyone is off at the end. For this, since I am from the United States, I’d like to shout out some great destinations you have to check out.

July at a Glance: Lake Tahoe, CA, Hawaii, Savannah, GA, Maine

Lake Tahoe, CA

California is a huge state. In particular Lake Tahoe, is an adventurer’s escape. With gorgeous views & exciting hikes, Lake Tahoe is for sure a destination that deserves to be on everyone’s bucket list. Even though the shoulder seasons are from March to May & September to November, Lake Tahoe is the hottest in July at around 79 deg Fahrenheit which makes it the perfect destination to experience summer in the United States.   A little escape at the lake will be everything you need to relax and rejuvenate while spending time with family & friends doing something adventurous and exhilarating. If you’re looking for more information on the weather year-round, check it out here  https://weatherspark.com/y/1529/Average-Weather-in-South-Lake-Tahoe-California-United-States-Year-Round

Top Things to Do In Lake Tahoe

Visit the many state parks: Emerald Bay State Park, Sand Harbor State Park, Vikingsholm (landmark & original home of Lake Tahoe) & D.L. Bliss State Park (it will be closed in 2023 as it undergoes construction) Go skiing in Lake Tahoe and even go ziplining.

Hawaii

Hawaii in July is always a great decision. I went with my family back in 2017 and it was the perfect time to explore paradise. Considering great white sharks visit the U.S. from January to April, going in July leaves ample time to never bump into them and risk a shark attack. On the other hand, if you’re looking to go cage diving, then perhaps it’s best to go from January to April. Additionally, it’s best to visit during this time to avoid its rainy season and enjoy the highest temperatures to get sun-kissed. If you’re looking for additional times to go that are optimal, check out this website and read an excerpt.

  • April – an excellent month, but avoid holidays when applicable
  • May – the best overall month for visitors, in our opinion. Great weather and reasonable rates
  • September – excellent month, great weather, perfect time for those seeking fewer visitors
  • October – great month, excellent selection of local festivals & events
  • January – wetter than average, but an excellent time to go whale watching” –Source: hawaii-guide.com

Savannah, GA

Savannah GA is one of the coolest most historic towns in the United States. From learning about the United States’ dark past with slavery to its gorgeous parks, rivers & museums. The weather during this time is at its prime. The historic city is why it’s one of the most visited in the country.

Top Things to Do In Savannah, GA:

Check out the Savannah Historic District, Cathedral of St. John the Baptist & Forsyth Park, Bonaventure Cemetery, Olde Pink House,  Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters, American Prohibition Museum, Wormhole Historic Site, Juliette Low’s Birthplace (to my Girl Scout lovers) and so many more!

Maine

Visiting New England in the summer is perfect since the weather at any other time of year is way too drastic. In particular, since Maine is the northernmost state, summertime is one of the only times to go in my opinion! Traveling to Maine can be a little difficult so the best way is by plane or my bar which could be 4+ hours of driving depending on where you are visiting in Maine. My parents had gone glamping there and ate the iconic lobster dishes during prime lobster season.

August

As for August, temperature-wise in the northern hemisphere is at all-time highs. For those of you with air conditioners, it’s basically racking up the electric bill & well, from a NYC meme, it is referred to as “Hell’s Front Porch”. August is a tough time to wear work clothes and do anything besides lay on the beach, so why not take a little time off and travel!!

South Africa (May-September)

From May to September, South Africa during this time is experiencing one of the cooler months which is optimal for wildlife viewing. Don’t get it twisted. When I said “cooler moths”, its temperatures are hitting around 72 degree Fahrenheit which is a great temperature.

Check out these two blogs for more information on things to do during each month in South Africa to plan your trip

Kenya (July-September)

If you’re looking to witness one of the most iconic events in the animal kingdom, venture to Kenya during July to September to witness the Great Migration of the wildebeest and zebra. Overall, June & August are cool & dry months that are perfect enjoying day activities Check out the complete list of things to do here: https://www.planetware.com/tourist-attractions/kenya-ken.htm

Cape May, NJ

A beautiful beach town that is Cape May is the perfect way to enjoy a summer day on the beach. Take a tour of the neighborhood where you get to see hundreds of historic, vibrant Victorian homes. The town has lot of cute shops & overall great for a weekend trip! Get your family & friends & start planning!!!

Croatia

Similar to Albania, Croatia is an absolutely beautiful country with a low cost of living, stretching your USD about 7x (depending on the time of year). Croatia is known for its iconic Yacht Week parties that you can actually find tours at any time of year in the summer months. If you’re a Game of Throne fan, history buff, ocean lover & beach babe, then visiting Croatia is a great idea. Get more details about yacht week here and if you have the time to extend your trip,

September

September is actually on of my favorite months of the year. Its weather is P E R F E C T for anything and everything. Fall hiking, a European beach moment, and city escape you need. Since May/June & September/October are the typical shoulder seasons, it’s no wonder I have 6 destinations on this list. Overall, we have a nice spread of Europe, South America & the United States but of course, there are so many other places as well!!

Southern Europe, Portugal, Spain, Greece & Italy

Visiting Southern Europe (either one of these a few or all of them) in September is a necessity. Since Europe gets super touristy during the Summer, it’s perfect to visit this region during the shoulder seasons so you can get some breathing space & avoid crazy crowds. Each of these countries offers a unique experience & cultural awakening that will make you want to keep traveling, and hey you might end up pursuing travel blogging like myself!

Portugal: Algrave,

Spain: Andalusia (Seville, Cordoba, Cadiz)

Greece:

Italy: Rome (The Colosseum) Florence, Sorrento,

Brazil (Sept & October)

This is another destination during the shoulder months where the weather is moderate, you miss the busy vacation/holiday tourist season &  The Brazilian Amazon is not drenched in never ending rain so it’s great to book an excursion. If you’re looking for more destinations that are best to travel to within Brazil to align your trip with the perfect time, check it out here.

Yellowstone National Park (also April & October)

If you’re on the route to avoiding crowds, then traveling to Yellowstone during September is just what you need! With thinner crowds, you get a bigger chance to see some pretty incredible animals in their natural habitat. If you’re an avid hiker/adventurer, then a camping trip like this one is going to make your day! Check out this blog for more information on the best time to travel to Yellowstone and tips for avoiding crowds.

October

Similar to September, October is another shoulder season travel month in that you avoid crowded areas, overflowing streets with tourists and increased housing prices. If you’re looking to use PTO, then now is the time to get those long vacations in. Around November & December most businesses get super busy so it’s best to use that time now!

Iceland

If you’re obsessed with nature, adventure & natural wonders, then going to Iceland in October has got to be on the top of your list. If you’d rather go in April around springtime, then again another option. Going October or April are both the first and last months to see the Northern Lights. Since it is not in the middle your chances to go are in late October and early April. I’d suggest looking into the phases of the moon. Now before you start to wonder, trust me it makes sense. When I went to Iceland and saw the Northern Lights in Iceland, we got to see the lights but they weren’t as bright since there was a full moon. The Northern Lights work best when it’s a new moon as light basically prevents the aurora borealis from shining through! Nonetheless, the trip was too much fun. We did a lot of tours that brought us to the natural wonders, waterfalls, black sand beaches & the cute town had so many nice restaurants to choose from. It’s an expensive country so make sure you save up!

Utah

If you’re also a hiking queen, then venturing off to Utah is the place for you. There are about 4 national parks in Utah, many of which you can combine into one trip. You’d definitely want to come when the weather is wild, aka the shoulder seasons so either in April-June or from September to October. You can combine two states into one by rafting in the Colorado River starting from Moab Utah as well! If you’re planning on doing a rafting trip, go from March – May in the springtime so that you have more hours of sunlight.

France

France is a beautiful European city that is typically known for its fancy beaches, famous landmarks & history, and around the Fall time, the off-season gives you the perfect opportunity to feel like a local & explore to your heart’s content. My uncle & his fiancé visited in October & had so much fun! Many consider this country to be very cliche, however, there are many small French towns to visit that will make you feel like you’re in a fairytale.

Albuquerque, NM

Around the first week of October is the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and it’s a fantastic way to see over 500, colorful hot air balloons in the distance. I mean a bucket list destination I have to go to at least once in my life. Check out this blog to get more information on the balloon festival and for dates, since they change a day to two earlier or later each year. https://www.visitalbuquerque.org/balloon-fiesta/

New Paltz

New Paltz is one of my FAVORITE towns to live in. I went to college here for four years and even in that time, there is still plenty more to do & continues to be a destination I visit every year. The town of New Paltz is so unique, pure & refreshing. From the locals’ energy to live music, wholesome mom & pop shops to the breathtaking nature, there is something for everyone to do in New Paltz. I particularly enjoy biking, hiking, kayaking, dining & watching the iconic sunsets overlooking the mountains. Check out my blog post to uncover more gems to experience in New Paltz.

Boston & Salem MA

There’s something iconic about visiting Salem during spooky season. The energy here is truly unmatched & the weather is perfect for a little city getaway. If you planned on visiting both Boston & Salem, Boston offers many overnight ferry options so you don’t have to worry about additional car rentals or long drives & the dreaded parking situation. If you love American history like I do, then Boston is the PLACE to be. Consider going on a walking tour throughout the Freedom Trail, a marked line throughout major landmarks & places of historical significance, that will count as your daily dose of Social Studies!

November

November is the last month before you really start to question why you’re still working. With Black Friday & Thanksgiving right around the corner, if you’re itching to travel & want to make the most of your Thanksgiving break, try and go away instead of stressing about seeing family and having the same old boring conversations (sorry I had to say it)!! Here are some awesome destinations to visit in November!

Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam & or Laos (Nov-March = dry season)

Thailand is an iconic place that truly needs all of the PTO you can get. Since the dry season coincides with the last few months of the year, it’s the best time to make a long trip out of Thanksgiving or even Christmas break for all of the students & teachers out there. Thailand in my opinion can be combined with both Cambodia, Vietnam & Laos for a two-week trip. Since the flight is so long, this will be perfect as you’ll need to account for time to travel & recover from jet lag! A tip for visiting Laos is if you plan on traveling throughout the river that the Laos river travel is ideal in Nov & Jan also good to go (Oct-April).  During the dry season is ideal & by courtesy of Travel & Leisure, “ (A major exception is the Lower Gulf — home to the island paradises of Ko Samui, Ko Phangan, and Ko Tao — which is rainiest from October through December.)” During November, you can experience the iconic Lantern Festival & visibility is clearest for underwater diving. Check out their post for more details

https://www.travelandleisure.com/travel-tips/best-time-to-visit-thailand#:~:text=For%20ideal%20weather%2C%20visit%20Thailand,rainiest%20from%20October%20through%20December.)

Morocco (sept-nov)

Morocco is a hidden gem & offers such great natural wonders, experiences & cultural realizations that will open your outlook on life and the world around us. Moroccan culture is beautiful to witness. From exploring the incredible architecture, eating savory & delicious meals, to understanding the charm of Moroccan temples, ancient palaces & little towns, Morocco is extremely underrated & a country you’ll have to visit in person to truly experience & see for yourself all of the greatness. If it makes you feel more comfortable, traveling with a tour guide will allow you to pay a single price and explore more places while feeling safe with a group of people.

New York, NY

There’s nothing like a New York Christmas & this is exactly why. From the Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, and Hudson Yards Lights to Central Park, Rockefeller Center, holiday markets, and festive & extremely extra restaurants, there really is nothing like seeing Christmas in NYC! Going in November, specifically after Thanksgiving is optimal as the holiday lights are all ready for you to see. Check out my blog for the top restaurants, bars & activities to visit/see & do in NYC.

December

I would describe this month’s vibe to the last month before school is over. You’re on the home stretch and soon enough. you’ll be in this relaxation mode of a lifetime. Just have to be a little patient and get ahead of planning your December travel before all of the flights get crazy expensive. Similar to November, having both Christmas & News Years off will allow you to make the most of your time off so some of these trips require a lil extra vacation time!

Miami & The Florida Keys

The perfect girls trip, family trip, you name it, Miami is the spot for you! Flights from NY in particular are always super affordable. Even if you’re not ready to fly with a budget airline like Frontier & Spirit, United, Delta, American Airlines & Jet Blue really come through with great deals that also include carryons (depending on the flight). From the inspiring art at Wynwood Walls to the crystal clear, aqua water, Everglades national park & museums, Miami has the nightlife, restaurants & sites that are perfect for everyone. My family did a road trip from Miami to the Florida Keys and we had the best time. If you’re looking to rent a car, exploring all the keys all the way to Key West should definitely be on your bucket list. From Key West in particular, you can fly to Cuba and add another country to your list while experiencing a new culture!

Bahamas

From someone that has never traveled to the Caribbean before, going to The Bahamas was the perfect place to so for your first time and every time. The locals were incredibly kind, the aqua, teal waters were just out of this world. We visited during Bahamian Independence Day which is July 10th, so if you’re planning to go then, just keep an eye out for hurricane season. There are over 700 islands and only 34 of them are inhibited, 17 of those privately owned. Each island is known for something in particular which makes it the perfect destination to continue to travel to and experience them all. You already know I will be back here so consider this a promise to visit Artherna, our tour guide. Text her on what’s app for airport pick up & her personalized tours throughout the Bahamas. Top 19 Things To Do In The Bahamas

St Lucia – mid dec to mid april

St Lucia is another hidden gem in the Caribbean. Considering the USD is stretched quite a bit here, once you get your flight, you can relax and enjoy paradise while soaking up the sun & getting sun-kissed. The nature is incredible here so I hope you like adventure, snorkeling & diving, hiking because that’s why I am going!!

Australia & New Zealand

Two incredible countries get the last review for places to visit on this month-by-month journey. Since the seasons are reversed, I found a genius hack for prolonging winter- by traveling South of the Equator!! Since again we have Christmas & New Years off, it’s a great way to extend your PTO since it takes like 2 days to get there and back let alone the jet lag! From visiting beaches, The Great Barrier Reef, the Australian outback, and get the full tour of The Hobbit’s movie set in New Zealand.

There You Have It

So consider this part one of two. As you can tell this post is so lengthy & in the best way. I wanted it to be informative and inspirational so you can turn your dream trip into something you will never forget! I know that a big part of traveling comes with planning ahead so I hope this gives you a perspective that no matter the month, there are tons of locations to visit & more to come! I really focused on having a nice balance between regions and June to December is no different. Let me know if there are other places you recommend & hey, you might see it in the second part of this post! Let me know if you’re planning a trip soon & let’s chat!
