Now that warmer weather is approaching, it’s time to ditch our jackets for our favorite bathing suits. When it comes to tropical destinations to visit in Summer, there is never a list long enough. It’s time to present to you my all-time favorite tropical destinations that will motivate you to book a trip. I know for me, I am this close to hitting “book” on Google Flights. These destinations are a perfect distance from NYC, where you won’t need to take too much time off work. Think of it like an extended weekend in paradise.
Tropical Destinations to Visit in Summer If You Love Road Trips: The Florida Keys
This place is a tropical paradise and somewhere that you need to visit at least once in your life. No matter how you do it. It’s perfect for a road trip, family vacation, girls’ getaway, whatever! On our family road trip, we started in Islamorada, then headed down to Marathon, and then finally Key West! If you are a fan of the Netflix series, Bloodline, then this place is familiar to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Top Places to Visit in the Keys: Turtle Hospital, Havana Cabana Hotel, Ocean View Pub, Captain Pip’s Marina, 90 Miles to Cuba, Mallory Square. The seafood was phenomenal (especially the conch fritters), literally the French fries of Key West, a true staple. Also, you must try a Key Lime pie, a true Key West staple invented by Mrs. H. Griner, a Key West resident.
- Best Times To Travel: April, May, October, or November. If you really want that Floridian heat, then go in July or August. I did it, so it’s definitely possible, but of course, very hot!

Tropical Destinations If You Love Adventure
The perfect balance of culture, adventure, luxury, and relaxation is Hawaii. Making it on the list of the top destinations to visit in summer is a no-brainer. After touching down in Hawaii, you’ll forget you just survived the twelve-hour flight. It’s hard to believe that you’re in the United States here for all the right reasons. I’d recommend spending about 3-4 days on each island to immerse yourself. If you’re not sure which islands to choose, let me help you!
Which Hawaiian Island Is Perfect For You?
- Oʻahu: The most popular island is home to Honolulu, Waikīkī Beach, Pearl Harbor, and the biggest airport, so if you are planning on visiting the other islands, you’ll find a great deal either flying in or out of this airport.
- Hawaiʻi (The Big Island): Known for its diverse landscapes, Hawaiʻi has it all – lava, snow-capped mountains, rainforests, and black sand beaches.
- Maui (Valley Isle): Known as the second-biggest island and more so for its diverse biology, Maui focuses on marine conservation to preserve the environment and its culture. In Maui, you can find rainforests, coral reefs, and more!
- Kauaʻi: If you love adventure, activity & a thrill, this island is for you! Covered in secluded beaches and hikes, you’ll find yourself connecting with nature.
- Molokaʻi: If you want to see the most traditional and untouched island, where Hawaiian culture is deeply rooted, welcome to Molokaʻi.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Top Places to Visit in Hawaii: Paradise Cove Luau (for a cultural luau experience), Diamond Head Mountain, Moana Falls, Waikīkī Beach, & the Pearl Harbor Memorial.
- Best Times To Travel: They recommend going in April and May for spring or September and October for fall. I went in July and it was the perfect weather all around. I recommend going during the summer because if you go during the winter, that’s when most sharks are in the water. I don’t know about you, but I am trying to keep my distance from them. The one downside of visiting Hawaii in July was that it was very humid and rainy all of the time. When my family hiked Moana Falls, it had just rained and we were all so muddy!

You can get a glimpse of the beach, mountains, city life, and a little adventure if you plan it right!
