Packing Travel Essentials

With these items, packing will take you no more than 25-30 minutes. For my complete list of packing tips, check out the post here, and let’s get into it!

  1. Cotopaxi 28L Backpack. The bag I take everywhere with me because it fits everything. It’s compact with supportive straps for your chest, hips, and back. It’s been with me to 10+ countries and even more cities. The best part? They make bags out of unused materials, so you’re contributing to a company that puts sustainability first. I made a whole post about just this bag, so check it out and you’ll be changed for good! This bag is featured in my carry-on packing tips posts you can check out here.
  2. Ricardo Carry-on Luggage. If you need to pack more than the average backpack amount, the Ricardo carry-on luggage is a game-changer. They have the best interior pockets to fit all the miscellaneous items. With packing cubes, you can fit so much in here. I especially love the front pockets that are perfect for bringing last-minute items. Check it out here, and a smaller version for a day trip here.
  3. Tote Bag. I don’t care where you get it, but you need a tote bag. It acts as the perfect personal item. Nobody questions its size because you carry it on your shoulder, and it fits perfectly under the airplane. There’s no tote bag in particular, but here are a few links to check out
  4. Packing Cubes. Similar to the tote bags, it doesn’t matter which packing cubes you get. Get the cheapest ones as long as they help compress your clothes. This makes packing a game-changer and has you questioning if you need to bring additional clothes.
  5. Weekender Bag. If you’re looking for a spacious but compact weekender bag, I have the one for you! I might sound controversial, but the Beis carry-on is not worth it, so this is a great alternative, and it’s cheaper. The soft material and non-structured build make this bag perfect for stuffing to the rim and nicely fit under the airplane, car trunk, or on the train. The under-the-shoe compartment is perfect because it only expands when you add things to it, making it perfect!
  6. Passport Holder. There’s no exact preference for a passport holder, but one with multiple card pockets to fit any additional IDs, paper, or even extra cash can be helpful.

Travel Packing List – Gadgets To Buy ASAP

You know that moment when you need something, but only for a specific moment. After traveling hundreds of times, these are the specific items that make traveling so much easier.

  1. Microfiber Towel. This isn’t just for people staying in a hostel. I promise you this comes in handy all of the time and more than you might think. From needing to dry off after being in the ocean to drying off your hair from the soaking rain, this comes in handy and is so compact, you won’t even realize it is in your luggage.
  2. Combination Lock. Another thing that is so small you won’t even realize it is in your luggage. This can come in handy if you’re on an excursion and need to lock your belongings in a locker, or if you drop off your luggage at a local store or business, it gives you peace of mind that it’s locked. Aside from that, it’s normal to lock up your backpack, fanny pack, or purse while you’re wearing it, going sightseeing.
  3. JanSport Backpack. What I love the most about this is their lifetime warranty. All you need to do is fill out the warranty form and ship it to their warehouse to either have it repaired or replaced completely free. I especially love how neutral it is. You can wear it to go on a hike, walk around the neighborhood, and, if necessary, to a restaurant.
  4. Bike Phone Mount. There have been way too many times while renting a city bike around the world when I have struggled to follow the directions. This contraption is super small, and the flexible material makes it an easy gadget to stuff in your luggage last minute. As technology advances, most city bikes and scooters have t spot for your phone, but just in case, this is a handy item that can be a life changer and saver by the way.
  5. Zoleo Satellite Connector. For multi-day hikes in remote environments around the world, it’s important to communicate your whereabouts with your family. This gadget on the travel packing list gives you and your family peace of mind that you’re safe.
  6. Portable Charger. This goes without saying, but you need a portable charger that can charge quickly and last long. I can easily charge my phone 2-3 times with this portable charger. You can also charge your phone via the solar charger, which is super helpful if you’re on the beach and your portable charger is dead. Lastly, there’s a MagSafe charger, which is perfect if you forget your cord.
  7. Loop Earplugs. This has been on my list for a bit, ever since TheBlondeAbroad did a promotion. They are compact reusable earplugs perfect for concerts, airplanes & honestly “surviving” in a 12-bed hostel with noisy travelers after a bar crawl or just snorers in general.
  8. Travel Adapter: Having a universal adapter that is small and compact with multiple USB, USB-C ports is so important.

There You Have It

Your travel packing list doesn’t have to be a thousand pages with hundreds of check boxes. With this consolidated list, you’ll notice how much lighter your carry-on will be. Let me know if there are any specific travel gadgets you’d like
