Top Things To Do In Las Vegas

When it comes to the amount of things to do in Las Vegas, the options are limitless. Aside from New York City, Las Vegas is another city that does not sleep and you can only imagine why. I am not sure how people have adapted to this lifestyle, I mean my uncle lived here for a few years so I know it’s possible. When it comes to visiting Vegas, there are many things to consider, who you are going with, what time of year, how long you are there for, and much more! Ride along and if you have an upcoming trip to Sin City, here’s the ultimate guide!

Logistical Things To Know Before Going

  1. By the end of May or early June, it’s sweltering hot. With climate change in full effect, it’s about 90+ degrees every single day. There’s no room for any hikes unless you go super early in the morning. If you’re thinking of sightseeing, think again about going during the day.
  2. It seems like it’s a small strip, but trust me walking it takes FOREVER. You’re better off planning your trip and then booking the hotel so you know you’re nearby. Also, there’s tons of traffic so be sure to take that into account if you have to drive far to make an event.
  3. Be careful in Death Valley because it can get super hot. If you’re using an older car, make sure to conserve your energy because keeping the AC on will overheat the car and I just can’t imagine being stranded in the desert without a way to cool off.
  4. Highly recommend renting a car only IF you are traveling from another state and this is a pit stop OR if you plan on going on an excursion/hike that will need a car to get to the mountain. If they offer you a Tesla, make sure you know how to use it. Don’t worry about shortages of chargers, since there are so many in the area!

Tips To Know Before Going to Vegas, PT 2

  1. It’s tempting to gamble so put money in your savings beforehand, and pay off your credit card bills. Money is the root to all evil and just thinking of the “if I just cashed in before losing it all” could ruin your trip.
  2. In that same vein, only take out cash WHEN YOU GET THERE. Unfortunately, I know someone who lost all of their money BEFORE even betting it. Don’t carry upwards of $1k in your pockets in a rubber band- take out cash when you get there. They will charge a fee, but rather than lose everything.
  3. With all the drinking and gambling, it’s really easy to feel depressed quickly so remember to do check in with yourself to make sure you aren’t going off the deep end. If you find yourself in a funk, I was told to go to the bathroom and splash cold water on yourself, it helps the receptors in your brain connect which helps you decipher real thoughts from feelings.
  4. Buy petalite before, must I explain further?

When To Go?

The best time to go to Las Vegas is during the shoulder seasons due to the scorching temperatures. April-March & September-October are ideal months but i mean even November-February don’t seem that bad. Just not June-August which is unfortunately when I went.

Where To Stay?

Hotels: This is one of the only times I’d probably recommend staying at a hotel over an Airbnb and it’s because a lot of the activities are near hotels/in them. Whether it’s at the casino, pool party or more, this is your chance to soak up the good vibes and not worry about ubering back and forth.

Some good options: The Venetian, Bellagio Hotel & Casino, Cosmopolitan, Crica & more!

Things To Do In Las Vegas

  • Welcome to Las Vegas Sign: This is pretty self-explanatory since it’s iconic! There’s a huge line, but nothing is stopping you from taking a picture on the side in between people taking pics!
  • High Roller: This is the world’s second-tallest Ferris wheel with some pretty incredible views in Las Vegas.
  • Mandalay Bay: Even if you are not staying here overnight, you can get day passes, relax on the beach, and of course live your best life in the lazy river
  • Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay Resort: If you like marine life, especially sharks, you are going to adore this spot. It’s so interactive and they put so much detail into every display, walkway, etc!
  • Bellagio Conservatory: Every season, they have a new display so if you’re a frequent visitor, there is always something new to look forward to!
  • SPEED Vegas: If you like fancy cars, especially ones that you don’t have to buy- then this is your spot! Experience Ferraris in the desert right here!
  • Neon Museum: Las Vegas would not nearly be as iconic without their signs and here at the Neon Museum you get a little glimpse in what Sin City used to look like. Pro Tip: I’d recommend checking it out at right before it closes. It’s $25 for admission and takes about 30 minutes to comfortably walk through the whole museum! Since they close at midnight, anytime after 11 pm would be ideal so you can see the signs light up!
  • Pinball Museum: Las Vegas is known for its gambling, but did you know they have an impressive pinball museum with hundreds of old-fashioned and modern pinball machines? Me either! This was such a cool experience and a great way to beat the heat! Check it out and be sure to bring small bills with you to exchange into quarters.

Outdoorsy Things To Do Near Las Vegas

  1. Sandboarding at the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes: This is the only park that permits sandboarding so check out this blog post for more details https://www.theoutbound.com/yosemite/chillin/sandboarding-the-mesquite-sand-dunes
  2. 7 Magic Mountains: Speaking of hype, this is overly-hyped but a must in Las Vegas. Fun fact, my uncle lived in Vegas before the mountains, that’s how old he is.
  3. Death Valley: Death Valley is known as the lowest National Park. It’s super convenient to check it out while driving to Vegas from California and worth the detour! Learn more about the history of Death Valley https://www.nps.gov/deva/learn/historyculture/people.htm
    • Easy Hikes: Badwater Basin Salt Flats Trail: 1.9mi, Time: 33min & Artists Palette: .3 miles, Time: 12min
    • Moderate Hikes: Mosaic Canyon Trail: 3.5miles, Time: 2hours & Natural Bridge Canyon Trail 1mi, Time: 52min
  4. Mojave National Preserve: there are a lot harder hikes here so feel free to check them out if you dare & be prepared before going on any hike! https://www.alltrails.com/parks/us/california/mojave-national-preserve
    • Red Rock Canyon: another great hiking spot, the Redcap Red Rock Canyon Trail is the shortest (1.8mi) and most rewarding! Another great hike here is the Calico Basin Trail that’s also easy!
    • Valley of Fire: This is one of the most iconic hikes in Las Vegas. When you go check out Elephant Rock & the Fire Wave, which are by far the coolest parts.
  5. Hoover Dam: Looking into part of United States History is the Hoover Dam. Created during the Great Depression and awarded “America’s Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders in 1994”, it was a tribute to Franklin D. Roosevelt and deemed a national landmark (History.com) You have to check it out yourself and see what the hype is about.
  6. Grand Canyon National Park: If you’re looking to check out Arizona, it’s not that far from Vegas and a great way to see the beautiful existence of the Colorado River “cutting a channel through the canyon’s rock layers between 5 and 6 million years ago”. It’s magnificent to see in pictures and cooler in pictures.

If You’re In Vegas To Party

Get the Discotech App for all the day parties. Most women get a discount so buy your tickets beforehand. Some great party spots to check out are Drai’s Beach Club, The Marquee in The Cosmopolitan, Encore Beach Club & Wet Republic. For other clubs, check out XS & Omnia for fun vibes!

If you want to see a show, then Absinthe is the one. Originally, they had a two-year contract; however, since they kept getting sold-out shows, Absinthe is here to stay. If you’re looking for a combination of cabaret, burlesque elements with acrobatics, and adult humor, head over here, and while you’re here check out the Caesars Hotel right in front!

Food Recommendations In Las Vegas

In Vegas, we were eating good! With a big party scene, making sure you’re fully fed is essential! Here are my favorite spots!

  1. Fogo de Chao: Brazilian steakhouses are so underrated and this spot shows exactly that. At Fogo de Chao, they have a buffet-style dinner with waiters walking around waiting to serve you steak, sausages, and cocktails. It was quite the experience and I 10/10 recommend going the first night you go there!
  2. In-N-Out: This spot is a classic and very cheap compared to other places around! I’d recommend going to this after checking out the Neon Museum since they are relatively close to each other!

Some other notable spots to check out to dine and drink are CHICA Las Vegas, Sushi Samba, Bellagio Buffet, and the Chandelier Bar at the Cosmopolitan!
