Tips To Know Right Before Your Flight

Okay, I’m setting the scene. Your flight is taking off in 24 hours. You have to make a to-do list and you’re not sure what to put first? Well, this is the list for you. Here are 14 tips to know right before your flight that will guarantee you a seamless flight.

Tips To Know Right Before Your Flight

Traveling doesn’t have to be stressful. The excitement is kicking in and honestly, it should be one of the only feelings you have before a trip. No part of a trip needs to be that stressful and it all comes from preparation. If you’re looking for a checklist right before taking off, look no further. The holy grail for all things before a flight is right here. Check it out and get excited for your trip!

  1. Check into your flight right when you get the e-mail. The earlier you check-in, the earlier you start boarding
  2. Traveling with a fanny pack helps you sneak an extra bag on the plane. I usually bring a backpack, tote bag, and a fanny pack so when the airline workers tell me to put the fanny pack in a bag, before getting on the plane, I lay it on top of my tote and afterward, they don’t ask again!
  3. Leading up to your flight, if the price of the flight is cheaper, the airline will usually credit you the difference. I have done this before and it works! Can’t guarantee that this works for everyone and in every situation but it definitely cannot hurt to try.
  4. Let credit cards/bank cards know that you’re traveling. Sometimes banks & credit cards will detect fraud if they see a random purchase from Italy. Meanwhile, you just wanted to satisfy your gelato craving. Let them know in advance and avoid the back and forth.
  5. When purchasing with your cards, always buy in the foreign currency. You avoid more fees this way.
  6. Clear storage on your phone before. Yes, delete those messages, unnecessary apps, photos, and anything else that will take up space. Nothing is worse than running out of storage on day one. I mean you have to start deleting things that you may need! I recommend downloading them to your computer and then purchasing an external hard drive so that you can save space. I recommend getting a 2TB-8TB one depending on how many photos/videos you have.
  7. Set up Google Photos on your phone and start a backup. Just in case your phone gets stolen or you break it, by having a backup on your phone to Google Photos, you won’t lose a thing!
  8. If you’re on a long flight, give gift cards to Starbucks or Dunkin to the flight attendants. Honestly, a gift card anywhere and they might just hook you up with that extra seat in business class that was never purchased.
  9. Carry cash with you. In your home currency at a minimum and if you are planning ahead, get the currency of the country you’re traveling to from your bank. This will help you avoid ridiculous transaction fees and unfair currency exchange rates that will rip you off.
  10. No matter where you go, always pack sunscreen. UV protection is no joke and especially flying 33k ft or more in the plane, you’re getting that sun exposure when you open that window, wear the sunscreen, and save yourself five years of sun damage (not actually but it adds up over time!)
  11. Get CLEAR to go right through security. Time is money and if that means I can spend an extra hour in Iceland, I will! Purchasing CLEAR allows you a hassle-free security process as you get to your next flight!
  12. Bring snacks & food TO THE AIRPORT. Not many people know this, but you can bring food to the airport. As long as it’s covered and sealed, then you’re good! Why spend $20 on a disgusting wrap when you can support your local deli and eat like a queen?
  13. If you’re traveling to a different time zone start adjusting to that new time. For example, if you’re flying ahead of time (from NY to Europe). It’s 8pm, but really it’s 2am. Try to sleep on the plane that way when you land, you are ready to start the day and not spend it catching up on sleep.
  14. Download movies, songs, TV shows that you want to listen to & watch. If you don’t do this, then you’re sh*t out of luck and have to listen to the same eight songs like I had to!
