BOBOTIE
Originated from Cape Malay, Bobotie is made of spiced minced meat, topped with a savory egg and milk custard, and baked to perfection.

When you order this, it may come with yellow rice, dried fruits like raisins, and garnished with bay leaves, chutney, and bananas.

SOUTH AFRICA TRAVEL GUIDE: Transportation

  • Air Trave: O.R. Tambo Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg & Cape Town International Airport (CPT) are the main airports with domestic flights from FlySafair, Airlink, and CemAir
  • Trains: The rail system is limited, but luxury trains (Rovos Rail & The Blue Train) travel between Pretoria & Cape Town. Metrorail is used by locals (unreliable for tourists).
  • Buses: Travel via Greyhound, Intercape, and City to City buses. Local minibus taxis are common but not always safe or regulated; use with caution. In Cape Town and Johannesburg, MyCiTi and Rea Vaya bus systems are clean, safe, and efficient.
  • Taxis & Ride Apps: Uber and Bolt are widely available in big cities, safer & cheaper than street taxis. Traditional taxis are best arranged via hotel or airport kiosks.
  • Driving: Driving is on the left-hand side. Fuel stations are full-service with a small tip expected. Avoid nighttime driving in rural areas due to livestock & limited lighting.
  • Cycling & Walking: Cities like Cape Town are developing bike lanes, especially along the waterfront. Avoid riding in heavy traffic zones.
