The 16 award-winning Latin musician, Rosalía, strikes again – proving that she is not afraid to experiment in yet another genre. The pop star released her fourth studio album, LUX, this past November, taking her fan base to new heights. She sings in 13 languages and has done what no other artist has ever done before: make classical music cool.
In an era where it seems like there’s an “unspoken formula” for how songs are written, generally sounding similar to one another, Rosalía’s album is different in the best way. From someone who has listened to her since 2020, she adds a refreshing sound, testing the boundaries and breaking records, and becoming the most-streamed album by a female, Spanish-speaking artist with 42.1 million streams in its first 24 hours.

The Concept of LUX
This hyper, yet subtle-feminist album tells the lives of misunderstood and highly underrated saints. Through her expensive research and ability to tell their stories through melodic interludes and intense movements. She puts them on the main stage in the native languages of their origins, paying homage to a divine world of religion, belief, and societal standards where women were not deemed significant enough.
In a way, Rosalía is shifting the energy and bringing their stories to life. She’s giving the exact power they had all along back to them- a concept that can be easily missed if not utilizing the translation apps to uncover the hidden messages. Rosalía, in an interview, states that in an era of social media and dwindling attention spans, she challenges us to pay attention, listen to a work of art from start to finish, and think about what we are listening to rather than using it as a means to pass time.
If you want to go the extra mile, she challenges you to listen to the entire album straight through in complete darkness and really let your imagination take over. From the depths and layers of the instruments’ sounds to her angelic voice and harmonization of the features, it’s a musical masterpiece that is getting the flowers it truly deserves.

There You Have It
As a fan of Rosalía for now six years, listening to her sound evolve and grow has been really eye-opening. She makes sure that she is never put in a specific box and teaches you to make your own rules and that it’s okay to play in your own lane if that’s what it takes to follow your calling and passion.
She’s a bold risk-taker, and it has paid off – something not many artists do with the fear that they won’t be liked by not following a specific rubric. I personally thought it was truly going to be hard to beat her last album, Motomami, but alas, she delivered, and in the best way possible! Let me know in the comments what your favorite songs are and your opinion of the album.
