WELCOME TO GREECE

GREECE TRAVEL GUIDE

Presenting to you, your ultimate Greece Travel Guide.

If you love history, shopping & the beach, then traveling to Greece is the right decision. Find yourself packing extremely light or even bringing another luggage because the shopping is no joke. I’ve never been to a country before that has so many unique cotton pieces.

From the local fisherman islands of Milos, Paros & Crete to Athens’ UNESCO historic monuments and hidden coves of Kalypso & Sarakiniko Beaches, Greece is the definition of a Euro summer, if you can handle the heat.

Some of my favorite memories include the wholesome local dinners with live music and dancing in Crete, as well as swimming in the village of Milos. Follow my guides, and you’ll be good to go!

Check out your ultimate Greece Travel Guide and everything you need to know to plan a perfect trip.

best time to visit

Let’s just start with there is no bad time to visit. As your ultimate Greece Travel Guide, this is what to expect each season so you can plan a perfect trip!

The most popular time to visit Greece is during the summer months (June to August). When the water is pristine and warm with the summer heat, you’re bound to get an iconic tan. Just be careful of the intense heat waves, especially in Athens.

The shoulder seasons (Sept – Nov) & (March – May) are better alternatives if you don’t want to break the bank, but you also risk many places closing due to seasonality.

Visiting throughout the Month of May and September seems to be the best time since you truly get the best of both worlds. Fewer crowds, more fun & all the sun!

National dishes

A Greece Travel Guide is incomplete without trying some of the country’s staple dishes. Eating like a local is an amazing way to get not only yummy food but a more authentic experience when traveling.

MOUSAKKA
Moussaka is a layered casserole of eggplant, ground meat, and tomato sauce, topped with a creamy béchamel sauce.

SOUVLAKI
This popular street food, & less of a national dish, consisting of grilled meat skewers (pork, beef or chicken), is also extremely popular (found almost everywhere).

Greece TRAVEL GUIDE: Transportation

  • Air Travel: Main airports are Athens (ATH), Thessaloniki (SKG), Heraklion (HER), and Rhodes (RHO). Budget airlines are Aegean Airlines, Ryanair & Sky Express.
  • Ferries: Choose high-speed catamarans (faster but pricier) over regular ferries (slower but scenic). When wind speeds are high, regular ferries get canceled.
  • Trains: Hellenic Train (OSE) connects Athens, Thessaloniki, and the central regions. Trains are modern and affordable, but buses reach more destinations.
  • Buses: KTEL covers the entire country with major hubs including Athens, Thessaloniki, and Patras. Ideal for reaching smaller towns, archaeological sites, and coastal villages.
  • Taxis & Ride Apps: Taxis are metered and affordable, and the Beat app is widely used.
  • Driving: Great for exploring islands and mainland countryside (Peloponnese, Meteora, Crete). Roads are generally good, though narrow and winding in mountain or island areas. Manual cars dominate rentals; book an automatic early. Gas is more expensive than in northern Europe. Watch for scooters and pedestrians in tight streets.
